Idaho sets 1964 tourist fish licenses with stamp validation
The Idaho Fish and Game Dept reports the 1964 tourist license plan will cost more to administer than 1963 and earlier systems due to stamp validation at sale. Vendors save labor, but overall costs may be absorbed by license fees after a July review. The plan keeps a $15 nonresident license and 7 day or 1 day options, with stamped day counts and vendor rules for issuing add on licenses.

Silver salmon eggs planted in Red River in Idaho effort
Silver salmon eggs have been planted in artificial hatching channels in the Red River, a South Fork Clearwater River tributary, for the second year. If established, they could add to Idaho fisheries and become a valued sport and food fish. They migrate as three year olds to spawn and die in nativity streams. About 600,000 eggs from Eagle Creek hatchery in Oregon were planted this fall, following last year’s 100,000 eyed eggs. A regular planting program is not planned due to egg availability. Plans for a ten year program and opening dates for big game seasons in 1964 will be reviewed by the Idaho Fish and Game Commission, with a public hearing set for Jan 29.

Ice safety rules for winter fishing
Ice conditions during thawing and freezing create hazards for fishermen. Air pockets and warm springs weaken the ice, making fishing through openings or cuts risky. Regulations for hole fishing follow the same rules as other angling methods in open waters.
Water Quality Investigations Along Snake River
Fisheries biologists conducted water quality studies over the past year from Burley to Brownlee Reservoir. Pollution was blamed for another Milner Reservoir fish kill last February, likely delayed by higher river flow below Lake Walcott.

Idaho Fur Season Best In Years Driven By Many Factors
Idaho's 1962-63 fur year yielded a strong trapping season due to mild weather and rising fur prices with more licensed trappers. Be careful: otter and beaver pelts stayed valuable while overall fur values lagged. beaver harvest reached 12,000, exceeding the long term average for a second time since 1957-58.
