Hunting Facts From State Dept Report On Wildlife

Keith S. Rudd reports from Canyon County that duck hunters had poor luck last month despite many ducks at Deer Flat Refuge. Goose hunters who stayed in the same spots earned game, and geese were spread due to herding efforts. Winter fishing improved at Jimmy Smith Lake and Mormon Reserve, with larger perch. Dog Creek Reservoir gained water through December. Rabbit drives near Rupert show steady productivity, with two rabbits replacing every casualty. Idaho caribou sightings declined due to deep snows with only one calf observed. Antelope trapping near Pahsimeroi finished. tagged animals were recaptured. Spawning runs in Reynolds Spring Cedar Creek and Roseworth Reservoir yielded several fish, suggesting more water would boost reproduction.
