Private First Class Parks earned a Meritorious Mast at the San Diego Marine Recruit Depot for exceptional professional competence in the Radio Telegraph Operators Course. He achieved a 91.73 percent average, first in a class of 27, after eighteen weeks of study and practical application.
Survey of Montana area snow courses on February 1 shows marked decreases in snow depth and water content from 1964 and 1965 levels. Measurements at Montpelier Creek Slug Creek Divide and other sites indicate snow water amounts far below prior winters, with only partial January gains and an overall trend to a lighter winter snow pack.
A Boy Scout Court of Honor is set for Bloomington at the Ward Chapel on February 6. The event will present merit badges First Class Star and two awards. Scouts Rand and others are named. attendees are invited.

Mildred Nypg, Clerk of Local Board No 4, reports six young men will receive physical examinations in February. They will go to Boise on Wednesday February 9. Two men will be called for induction and leave February 15. Names of those called are not released.
The Spartan boys lost 74-40 at Montpelier as the Bears opened 17-3 and pulled away. Wynn Wallentine led Spartan scoring with 7 points while Montpelier dominated rebounding and inside play. The team then traveled to Bancroft and were defeated 87-56 by North Gem, continuing their skid.
The LDS Church leader David O McKay will broadcast his message to Boy Scouts via KSVI radio 1450 on the dial. The address is set for February 8th at 8 00 p m and will reach listeners statewide.

The Bear Lake County library system operates on a 14 mill levy averaging about 5100 dollars yearly with salaries for Montpelier and Paris librarians around 2200. Montpelier houses over 25 thousand books while Paris holds several thousand. annual Circulation at Montpelier reached over 52 thousand. New hours were set at Montpelier and Paris relocated to City Hall last May. funds have been set aside for a new library building with plans to apply for federal aid via State cooperation with 60 percent from the feds and 40 percent locally.
