The Idaho Legislature opened a rapid special session with 20 bills introduced across 18 items on the governor’s 27 item agenda. Senate and House officials said several measures remain in study and timing is unclear while some items are emergency in nature.
Paul Tex Yearout will speak at Bearake High School on Monday February 5 in a national assembly. Yearout has spent 23 years working with teenagers and travels about 50 000 miles yearly addressing over a quarter million youths across the country. He appears in roughly 350 high school assemblies each school year sharing views on social challenges with candid humor and firm values.
A memorial introduced in the Idaho House by Representatives Max Haddock Ernest Permann and Oscar Arstein urges federal intervention to halt proposed rail service cuts. It notes petitions before the Interstate Commerce Commission by Northern Pacific and Union Pacific to discontinue passenger routes through Idaho from Fargo to Seattle and Kansas City to Portland via southern Idaho and Salt Lake City to Butte via eastern Idaho. The memorial asks Congress to investigate the need for passenger service and coordination with other transport and to restore mail and express service.
Two new senators Reed Budge of Soda Springs in District 32 and John Andrea of Arco were sworn in to replace Whitworth and Beal as the special legislative session opened. Paul Holm of Roberts replaces Pat Herwood in the House after Herwood moved.
Bear Lake County farmers wishing to join the 1968 wheat program must file sign up between February 6 and March 15. Applications should state program intentions and level of participation. The program offers price support loans and marketing certificates to help returns reach parity. no diversion payment is available.
Lloyd Pope Evans 59 of Salt Lake City died January 28 in a Salt Lake City hospital. He was born October 19, 1908 in Raymond Utah. He married Cerelda Hart in Los Angeles and was an LDS Church Elder. He owned grocery businesses in Los Angeles Logan and Salt Lake City for 35 years. He is survived by his widow two sons a grandson his foster mother and several siblings. Funeral services were held Wednesday in Salt Lake City with burial in Garden City Cemetery.

Mr and Mrs Chad Pugmire were hospitalized with severe whiplash after a rear end collision in Salt Lake City Tuesday night. Their five month old son Boyd was uninjured as the front seat was torn loose and the car declared a total loss. Mr Pugmire is the son of Mr and Mrs Junior Pugmire of St Charles.
