Two victories add to Cagestera’s record as they defeat Arimo 46 to 33 and team 49 to 41 away from home. The Friday game saw missing regulars due to operetta cast duties for the local squad. Also noted are a Ward Social in St. Charles with supper, fish pond, and auction, plus a Christmas party and greetings from August Jaussl abroad.
Fielding High School hosts the annual Senior Ball on Friday night December 23 in the Paris pavilion. The evening features the Grand March and a short floor show with the theme I Can Dream Cant I. Semi formal attire. Smithfield orchestra provides music. Tickets are 1.20 per couple and 0.50 for extra ladies.
Power & Light provides free electric power for Christmas lighting across 85 Utah communities. About 222,749 kilowatt hours will illuminate roughly 37,000 lamps in streets and parks. In the Preston division 6,664 lamps in 22 communities will use about 29,274 kilowatt hours.
Rexburg district Governor R. G. Weiser was honor guest at a Paris Lions Club dinner in Emerson school. He spoke on Lionism and met the board in a business session. Jack Allinger of Montpelier spoke on Idaho wildlife and Rod & Gun club support for regulations. Mrs. William Bee sang with Blanche Piggott at the piano. about thirty members and guests attended.
Funeral service held for 18 day old Terrence Willard Nye at W Loyal Hall Mortuary chapel in Logan. Burial in Paris cemetery. Survived by his parents Mr. and Mrs. Bil Nye of Logan and four grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Nye of Paris and Mr. and Mrs. Nye of Paris.
The L D S church service conducted by Bp James Olsen featured opening and sacramental songs, invocation, talks by LoAnne Sorenson Loren Sleight Richard Anthony and Lois Bartachi, organ by Ivy Jensen, piano by Barbara Bartschi, and sacraments by Herman Johnson and Norman Beck. A leadership meeting planned a Christmas celebration as Dale Richards visits his mother Myrtle Richards.
Mrs W Smith Hoge hosted a bridge club gathering with Mrs Archie Shephard taking high score. Refreshments were served to Mesdames Innes Tueller Tunks Jensen Shepherd and Warner. Mrs Frederick Parker hosted a Saturday birthday party for Miss Twila Popker with guests Bennett Fate Lewis Beteman Ward and Rosa Anna fol esy. Geile was eight years old.
Emerson Grade School stages Heigh Ho Holly the Christmas operetta in Paris Second Ward Chapel. Fifth to eighth graders perform tonight with extended shows and a May Spring Festival planned by principal Roghaar and instructors West Madsen Rich and Roghaar.
Katherine Schick Taylor 44 died of a heart ailment at home in Salt Lake City. Born March 17 1885 in Paris Idaho she was daughter of George and Katherine Schick. She married James H. Taylor Sept 10 1919 in the Salt Lake Temple and had 6 sons 5 daughters 11 grandchildren.
Mr and Mrs George Palmer moved to Salt Lake City Monday. Ray Neladitz of Salt Lake was an overnight visitor Friday with his sister Mrs Grant Rich and family. George Hulme from Logan came for the holidays. Mrs Doris Gambling of Sharon spent Monday with her parents. Hildeen Lewis submitted to an appendectomy at Soda Springs hospital. Mrs LiePriel Athay assisted at the lunch room during Mrs Hidon Lewis absence. Wayne Rex Haddock and Jay Price and other USAC students are home for vacation.
Laketown Hyrum Nebeker a South Eden rancher wed Louise Keetch of St. Charles in the Idaho Falls Temple on Thursday December 15. The bride’s mother and sisters joined the wedding party and the couple were hosted at events in Salt Lake City after the ceremony. They planned to spend the winter in Arizona.
A Laketown Old Folks party drew 140 guests at a Thursday 7:30 p.m. event in the hall chaired by Morton Kearl and Mrs. Benjamin Weston. The banquet featured decorated tables, a Christmas tree, and a varied program with readings, songs, and dancing led by Sid Irwin's Harmony Hounds.
The list shows Fielding High School and Paris ward events from December to May, with multiple openings and scheduled dances such as the Ballet Society and Gold and Green Ball. Notable exclusions include the St Charles G and G Ball on February 8 and other pavilion activities canceled or not held.
Fielding High School Chorus presented The Red Mill for three evenings under Raymond Webb. Elwin Roberts stood out as an actor with strong stage presence. The cast delivered polished vocal parts and fitting character roles to strong audience praise.
Mrs. L. L. Cook sustained serious injuries in a Friday auto crash near Garden City while traveling to Logan. The Cook car, carrying also Mr. Cook and a grandson, collided with three USAC Casper students returning home, who were not watching the road. Mrs. Cook remains hospitalized in Logan.
Local residents and visitors spent the holidays in Idaho towns. Darwin Haddock and Walter Bird traveled for business in Pocatello and Montpelier, while the Bird couple planned a Portland trip for Christmas. Families welcomed relatives. several appendectomies and hospital stays were noted along with a Paris Ward Christmas program.
A children’s dance at 2 p.m. and a big evening Christmas dance will be held Monday December 26 in the Paria pavilion. Music by the Simmons orchestra of Grace. Sponsored by Paris First Ward MIA with joint budget dances for Paris wards and guests.
The Paris Second Ward Christmas program will be held Friday evening December 23 at 7 p.m. in the ward chapel.
Letter from Hilder Carl Anderson, serving a LDS mission in Finland, to Mr. and Mrs. Kurt Anderson in St. Charles describes Christmas in Finland. He notes economic strides, home made goods, forests and lakes, Finland as Land of a Thousand Lakes, religious context, and the Church’s growing interest among Finns, ending with holiday blessings from Elder Carl A. Anderson.
Idaho State Police warn of heavy Christmas travel and urge drivers to use common sense extra care and courtesy during the three day holiday period. Last year nine killed 112 accidents 105 hurt with rural faster speeds cited. State, city, and sheriff officers will patrol to prevent tragedies. A Paris First Ward Primary Christmas party featured Santa and gifts for children.
Three Bear Lake area men died in the past week. William McCammon, 82, died at his Georgetown home. Samuel Winterbottom, 86, died at his son Virgil’s Paris home. William Painter, 72, died in Bloomington. Funeral services for Winterbottom were set for Thursday in Paris. Painter’s service is scheduled for Thursday in Bloomington.
William McCammon 82 died at his Georgetown home on Saturday December 17. He was born September 23 1867 in Bucks County Pennsylvania to John and Mary J Houseworth McCammon. Surviving are daughter Mrs Pat Smart of Georgetown and sister Mrs Lillian Gaskins of Montpelier. Funeral services were held in Georgetown.
