Idaho total potato stocks on hand as of December 1 1960 were estimated at 99,390,500 cwt with an implied value around 60 million dollars. The USDA statistical bulletin notes stock levels and market implications for the harvest season.
A family from Paris driving from Montpelier struck two horses on a highway near the north city limits. The two children Donna Lou and Danny Hymas suffered minor injuries and were treated at Bear Lake Memorial hospital for a couple of days. Both horses died in the crash and were removed the next day.

Three Salt Lake City residents including a former Paris resident were injured when their car crashed into a freight train at the Washington street crossing in Montpelier. The vehicle was dragged 1300 feet along the tracks. the car was demolished and all three were taken to Bear Lake Memorial hospital with broken bones and abrasions. The driver Lyle Gertsch sustained serious facial injuries and a broken wrist. his passengers Mr. and Mrs. Von Nelson were injured but expected to be released soon. The crossing had a signalman on duty. A Salt Lake newspaper had misidentified the Nelsons as Mr. and Mrs. Van Nelson of Paris.

Dean Smith of Fish Haven driver for Kraft Food Products Co. of Paris escaped serious injuries when his truck collided with a Pacific Intermountain Express semi on Highway 30 between Bancroft and Lava Hot Springs during a blizzard. He jumped from the cab as the PIE truck slid into his path. PIE rolled onto Smiths cab, cheese cargo later recovered and moved to destination.
University of Idaho ranked among leading U S. institutions for National Defense Education Act fellowships. Nine new awards totaling fields such as applied mathematics statistics chemistry chemical engineering school administration and political science will start in 1962. Since program began the university has received 53 fellowships. Each three year award includes 2000 first year 2200 second year and 2400 third year plus 400 per dependent annually.

Fire of undetermined origin destroyed the upper floor of the Andrew Barfuss residence in Paris leaving the lower floor wrecked. Louis Barfuss tended the house while his parents were visiting, with a defective chimney presumed. Passersby alerted the fire department despite hydrant delays and a frigid near zero night.
Roger Fleming, director of the American Farm Bureau Washington office, reported 1,600,994 Farm Bureau members in 49 states and Puerto Rico, up from 1,600,792. He called the gain meaningful during heightened agricultural policy debate and criticized the Cochrane Freeman bill as an unprecedented power grab by the Agriculture Department.
