Idaho Fish and Game Reports Progress On Clearwater Projects
The Idaho Fish and Game Department outlines progress on key Clearwater River initiatives. The Lewis ton fishway nears completion, enabling salmon and steelhead to cross the dam year round. Selway Falls tunnel work resumes with 230 feet excavated, and a future fish way inside the tunnel will aid spawning above the falls. The joint effort involves Bureau of Commercial Fisheries and Washington Water Power Company. The Idaho Wildlife Federation sponsors a statewide conservation essay contest with 1 024 essays from 47 communities and prizes funded by the Federation. New license issuance begins December 19 with distribution to about 200 vendors, and migratory waterfowl and rabbit hunters receive new licenses by season end. A novel trout planting method using plastic bottles and oxygen yields 99.9 percent survival, aiding remote lake stocking and expanding access under the Accelerated Public Works program.
