Bear Lake Cutter Races Set for Paris January 10

Bear Lake Valley riding clubs plan eight cutter teams for a new sports event in Paris on January 10. Joined by the Paris and Montpelier organizers the event features four east side and four west side teams with an evening dance at the pavilion after the afternoon races.

Roscoe Caldwell Begins Training as Army Air Forces Engineer

Roscoe Caldwell son of Mrs Ben Kelsey of Paris has started training as an Aviation Engineer in the Army Air Forces at Fort Francis E Warren Wyoming a station of the Technical Division Air Training Command Col John C Bhilliott base commandant reports. The Engineering School teaches drafting surveying carpentry and vehicle operation for airport and highway construction with future aviation engineer units as part of the Army Air Forces. Lias Dell Porter attending USAC spent the weekend with his parents Angus Porter and family.

Smith Hoge and Grimmett Trip to Blackfoot for Thanksgiving

Mr and Mrs W Smith Hoge and Mrs Louisa Grimmett traveled to Blackfoot Thursday where they met Mr and Mrs Fred Klinke and daughter. They shared a Thanksgiving dinner at the home of Mr and Mrs Walter C Bithell. The Hoges returned with the Klinkes to Twin Falls on Friday and stayed until Sunday.

Mayor A W Shepherd urged pur chase of T H Christmas Seals in a proclamation. The Senior Ruff was held in the Paris pavilion last Thursday. A baby boy arrived to Mr and Mrs David Beck and a daughter to Mr and Mrs Lowell Passey Sunday evening. Fielding High staged a popularity contest with Vilda Passey as the girl winner and Dallas Tueller among the boys. The Stake MIA Gold and Green Ball was set for Dec 9 with Mrs Virginia Waterfaus as queen. Paris basketball town team formed with Harmont Crawford Devere Crawford Golden Tueller Elmer Beck Zeke Rich Kenneth Longhurst Clem Humphreys. The first Fielding Searchlight issue appeared with staff including Beatrice Taylor and Marguerite Wyler and others.

Harold B. Lee to Speak at Bear Lake Stake Conference

Harold B Lee of the Church Authorities will headline the Bear Lake Stake Quarterly Conference in Paris with a special Sunday program on December seventh at eight p.m. in the tabernacle. The service features song, invocation, xylophone solo, and talks by Mary Johnson Lawana Nelson Norma Hart and Parley Lloyd with a Michaelson quartet and a closing benediction.

Former Garden City Man Dies in Ogden

Carl A. Hildt 50 died in an Ogden hospital last Wednesday after a long illness. Born May 23 1907 in Garden City he moved to Ogden seven years ago worked as a steam fitter at the Ogden Arsenal. Survived by widow Anna McCann Hildt and children Allen Enid Louise Darlene Anna all of Ogden, mother Maggie L Hildt of Ogden, brothers Paul R and Grant R Hildt and Mrs Muriel Sexton of Ogden, and sisters Mrs Edith Waelker and Mrs Vera Evana of Evanston. Funeral services were held at 1 pm Saturday in Larkin & Sons Mortuary Chapel. Burial in Ogden cemetery.

Justice of Peace Court Fines Total $400

The Justice of Peace Court handled several cases Monday. Aaron L. Lewis of Dingle pleaded guilty to drunken driving and paid a $100 fine plus costs and lost his license. Leo Vallentine and Virl Nichols were fined $150 each with 30 days in jail suspended on payment of fines after driving while under the influence. Each case included court costs.

Bear Lake Valley Pioneer Dies at 94 in Bloomington

Mary Thompson Patterson 94 a Bear Lake Valley pioneer who crossed the plains as a child died at her daughter’s Bloomington home on November 26. Born February 24 1853 in Lendum Denmark she and her family emigrated in 1861. She married Edward M Patterson in Salt Lake City in 1868 and had nine children. Funeral held November 29 at the Bloomington ward chapel with extensive services and interment at Bloomington Cemetery.
