Bear Lake Valley riding clubs plan eight cutter teams for a new sports event in Paris on January 10. Joined by the Paris and Montpelier organizers the event features four east side and four west side teams with an evening dance at the pavilion after the afternoon races.
Roscoe Caldwell son of Mrs Ben Kelsey of Paris has started training as an Aviation Engineer in the Army Air Forces at Fort Francis E Warren Wyoming a station of the Technical Division Air Training Command Col John C Bhilliott base commandant reports. The Engineering School teaches drafting surveying carpentry and vehicle operation for airport and highway construction with future aviation engineer units as part of the Army Air Forces. Lias Dell Porter attending USAC spent the weekend with his parents Angus Porter and family.
Mr and Mrs W Smith Hoge and Mrs Louisa Grimmett traveled to Blackfoot Thursday where they met Mr and Mrs Fred Klinke and daughter. They shared a Thanksgiving dinner at the home of Mr and Mrs Walter C Bithell. The Hoges returned with the Klinkes to Twin Falls on Friday and stayed until Sunday.
Mayor A W Shepherd urged pur chase of T H Christmas Seals in a proclamation. The Senior Ruff was held in the Paris pavilion last Thursday. A baby boy arrived to Mr and Mrs David Beck and a daughter to Mr and Mrs Lowell Passey Sunday evening. Fielding High staged a popularity contest with Vilda Passey as the girl winner and Dallas Tueller among the boys. The Stake MIA Gold and Green Ball was set for Dec 9 with Mrs Virginia Waterfaus as queen. Paris basketball town team formed with Harmont Crawford Devere Crawford Golden Tueller Elmer Beck Zeke Rich Kenneth Longhurst Clem Humphreys. The first Fielding Searchlight issue appeared with staff including Beatrice Taylor and Marguerite Wyler and others.
The Idaho State Employment Service unveils a comprehensive farm labor placement plan for 1948. Under new federal transfer, the service will recruit locally, move migratory workers as needed, cooperate with state and federal agencies, and ensure housing and safety while serving all agricultural employers and workers without discrimination.
Thanksgiving dinner guests at the home of Mr and Mrs Seldon Parker included Mr and Mrs LaVere Hansen and family from Garden City and Mr and Mrs Dr Haddock and family.
Howard Ward of Bloomington wed Miss Mary Spires of Logan. They have returned from a week long honeymoon and are now at home in Bloomington.
Harold B Lee of the Church Authorities will headline the Bear Lake Stake Quarterly Conference in Paris with a special Sunday program on December seventh at eight p.m. in the tabernacle. The service features song, invocation, xylophone solo, and talks by Mary Johnson Lawana Nelson Norma Hart and Parley Lloyd with a Michaelson quartet and a closing benediction.
Carl A. Hildt 50 died in an Ogden hospital last Wednesday after a long illness. Born May 23 1907 in Garden City he moved to Ogden seven years ago worked as a steam fitter at the Ogden Arsenal. Survived by widow Anna McCann Hildt and children Allen Enid Louise Darlene Anna all of Ogden, mother Maggie L Hildt of Ogden, brothers Paul R and Grant R Hildt and Mrs Muriel Sexton of Ogden, and sisters Mrs Edith Waelker and Mrs Vera Evana of Evanston. Funeral services were held at 1 pm Saturday in Larkin & Sons Mortuary Chapel. Burial in Ogden cemetery.
Clifford Stock of Salt Lake and his sister Mrs Ivan Beck visited Tuesday evening and Wednesday. Red Cross chapter plans an important meeting Thursday night at the high school.
Mr and Mrs Max Stucki of Nevada spent the holiday weekend with relatives. They were joined by Mary Stucki who has spent the past weeks in Nevada with her son.
Dinner guests on Thanksgiving day were Mr and Mrs Roy Patterson and family of Blackfoot, Mr and Mrs Doneil Jensen and family of Pocatello, Mr and Mrs DeWin Anderson and boys of Central, Blake Jensen and Mrs B H Findlay of Lanark.
Thanksgiving day guests at the home of Mr and Mrs Verl J Allred included Mr and Mrs RO Allred and Mr and Mrs Ray Brown with son Gary of Ogden. Also present were Mr and Mrs John H Seyfang and family and Mr and Mrs CR Kizzare of Bitter Creek Wyoming, and John H Seyfang III of Wyoming University in Laramie.
The regular PTA meeting is set for Wednesday evening December 10 at 7 30 PM at Emerson School. Dad’s Night invites fathers to attend with their wives. A W Shepherd is guest speaker and refreshments will follow the program.
The Justice of Peace Court handled several cases Monday. Aaron L. Lewis of Dingle pleaded guilty to drunken driving and paid a $100 fine plus costs and lost his license. Leo Vallentine and Virl Nichols were fined $150 each with 30 days in jail suspended on payment of fines after driving while under the influence. Each case included court costs.
L D S church column notes budget tickets required for all members over 12 at stake and ward events. Bishopric and stake presidency enforce use for admission across wards. Various meeting details list speakers, testimonies, sacraments, and closing songs from multiple wards within Bear Lake Stake.
At its December 1 meeting the City Council ordered stop signs and coast ing lane signs on streets feeding Center Street west of Main. Parents urged to have children use the designated area to coast safely rather than on unprotected streets.

Paris 1st Ward Mutual Junior Girl class members Merla Nye Loueen Porter Verna Allred Adella Stucki LaRue Crawford Rita Collings and Carol Beck hosted a mother tribute at teacher Darlene Rich home. A program featured songs and a rose corsage surprise for each mother followed by games community singing and refreshments.
Mr and Mrs Max Stucki of Nevada and Mrs Mary Stucki shared Thanksgiving at the home of Mr and Mrs Morris Athay and Marlys. Mr and Mrs J B Hann their children and Edward Wren drove to Savory Wyoming to dine with Mr and Mrs Wren. They returned to Paria Sunday.
The Literary club met Tuesday evening at Ethel Jensen home. Melinda Sparks reviewed The Biography of George Washington Carver for Pauline Cox Bertha Hoge Lark Bateman Lucile Crawford Amy Athay Anona Grandy Lillias Grimmett Lillie Lauritzen Mia M D Low and Nora Hymas.
Mr and Mrs Carl Finch and children of Soda Springs Mr and Mrs Ira Peterson of Montpelier Mr and Mrs Owen Shepherd and Mr and Mrs Russell Athay and family delivered baskets to share a generous Thanksgiving meal at the home of Mrs Louisa Athay.

Mary Thompson Patterson 94 a Bear Lake Valley pioneer who crossed the plains as a child died at her daughter’s Bloomington home on November 26. Born February 24 1853 in Lendum Denmark she and her family emigrated in 1861. She married Edward M Patterson in Salt Lake City in 1868 and had nine children. Funeral held November 29 at the Bloomington ward chapel with extensive services and interment at Bloomington Cemetery.
Mr and Mrs Melvin Peterson and family and Mr and Mrs Cyril Sorensen and family of Ovid were dinner guests Sunday at the home of Mr and Mrs Walter Lewia.
The fireside group gathered Sunday evening at Ivan Beck’s home and served ice box cake and punch. They will skip next Sunday due to conference but plan to meet again on Sunday, December 14, at Jas. Collings' home.
