McMurray Nominated Republican Governor in Idaho

John McMurray of Oakley Cassia county farmer stockman and banker was unanimously nominated for governor at the Idaho GOP convention. The ticket includes W W Von Cannon for lieutenant governor and Alfred Budge and Raymond L Givens to the state supreme court. Borah French and Smith also nominated to Congress with Gillis seeking a larger role.

Water chlorination in Meridian after city well outage

Water from an irrigation canal is being chlorinated by the state department of public welfare to supply Meridian after its municipal well went dry. Portable equipment is used and domestic water is drawn from health-approved sources.

Less Planting Winter Wheat Across Nation Says Agr Dept

Washington Aug 26 The agriculture department reports farmers plan 4.5 percent less winter wheat than last fall based on August data. Rye seedings are seen 1.3 percent higher than 1929. Indicated winter wheat acreage totals 41 302 000 acres, the lowest since 1923. Also notes visit by Ralph Smith of Los Angeles and Mr and Mrs Wm Humphreys of Logan, Utah.

Idaho nominating races heat up as staff urged for pay

In Idaho Falls on August 27 George Barrett of Wendell won the treasurer nomination on the second ballot over Norman D. Adkinson of Boise, 118 to 109 with fractions on each ballot. Lukens and Gallet were reelected secretaries of state and state auditor respectively.

Bourbons Name Full Ticket At St Anthonys Democratic Nominating

At the Idaho Democratic state convention in St Anthony Mayor C Ben Ross of Pocatello was nominated for governor by acclamation after Asher Wilson withdrew. Joseph Tyler Compton White was selected for Congress in the first district, George H Fisher for the second district, with G P Mix as lieutenant governor and W W Spiers as secretary of state. Other nominees included M Strecker for state treasurer, Josua Rollingston auditor, A G Sabre attorney general, Retta Martin for superintendent, W G Huseman mine inspector, Alvin Denman and M Reese Hattabaugh for supreme court justices, and A Walters chosen state chairman.

State Board May Name Vincent U I President

W D Vincent, state commissioner of education, may be chosen to serve as president of Idaho State University. No official statement from the state board of education has been issued, but those in the know predict Vincent as the man. His career spans Blackfoot, St Anthony, and the Idaho Industrial School, with wide university and educational experience.

Paris Junior Band To Give Concert Here

The Paris L. D. 8 Junior Band under Dan Jansen and organized by Harry N. Chesebrough will present a free demonstration concert in the 2nd ward Friday evening August 298th at 8 p m. The band consists of beginners with six weeks training and invites all interested. Mr and Mrs Lynn Hayward returned to Paris for a few days before heading to Provo Utah where Mr Hayward will teach and study during winter.

Midwestern Deep Test Oil Well Near Afton Advances

Report from the Midwestern deep test oil well on Little Grays River, 40 miles northeast of Afton, says drillers plan to reach 2200 to 2400 feet as heavy hot water challenges were noted at 1200 feet and again near 2400 feet. Trucks haul pipe from Casper to the site as drilling resumes after a winter suspension.

Lon Chaney Dies After Lobar Pneumonia Fight

Lon Chaney noted character actor dies at 12 58 am in Los Angeles after a week long battle with lobar pneumonia. A last minute hemorrhage proved fatal. Chaney was 47 years old and had been on the road to recovery prior to the setback.

Ygnacio Parin carried by Mrs Barbara Lopez was struck by a hit and run car crossing a safety zone. Five people including Mrs Lopez were knocked down. After the scramble police found Ygnacio a mile away unharmed in a citywide search.

Boise reports Idaho game officials would provide jack rabbits to New Jersey to replace eastern cotton tails endangered by motorists. New Jersey authorities welcomed the idea praising the rabbits speed and dodging ability, promising to round them up with cowboys.

Natural gas service plan filed to serve Idaho cities

Thebbo Starr and Anderson of San Francisco filed with the public utilities commission for a permit to supply Idaho cities Mos cow Coeur d Alene Idaho Falls Blackfoot Burley Payette and Weiser with liquid natural gas. The firm already serves or plans to serve many Washington Oregon and California communities. The gas would arrive in tank cars and be distributed at existing points. The cost would be between natural gas and manufactured gas.

Randolph Man Injured When Mower Overruns Him

Last Saturday in Rich County a man named H J Norris Sr was thrown from his mowing machine and run over. He held the lines and stopped the team only for the mower to back onto him again. He was buried under the machine until aid arrived and sustained bruises but no serious injuries.

Borah to Return to Washington for Campaign Prep

Advices say Senator Borah will return to Washington Monday and stay several days before heading to Idaho for the fall campaign. Senator and Mrs. Borah have been at Polar Springs Maine since the senate session ended to give him rest. Doctors advised a two month vacation but his Maine stay will be shorter.

Bear Lake County Budgets Review Set For September Meeting

County Commissioners have filed their preliminary Bear Lake budget for the coming fiscal year. A copy is available in the Clerk of the Board office for inspection. The board will convene on the first Monday in September at the Paris Court House to fix the final budget and authorize appropriations, with taxpayers invited to attend and be heard.
