Governor Alexander cites the state land board as failing to loan school funds to farmers. Treasurer Eagleson details buyer distrust, slow appraisal, and costly fees, noting idle state money losses and a call for a professional finance board to replace outdated procedures.
Engineer Robert Mackenzie arrives to survey a 16 foot driveway and a 14 foot blasting section for the Logan Canyon road between Logan and Bear Lake. Estimated cost exceeds 55000 dollars with work hoped to begin this fall and benefit Yellowstone access and Bear Lake summer tourism.
Dr R J Sutton manager of Paris baseball arranged three game series with Star Valley fans for Thursday Friday and Saturday of last week. Lineup included Jim Taylor Joel Tueller Eri Mulica Karl Clegg Harold Swift Passey Boyd Hansen G B Hocker Parley Lewis Frank Thompson John Clegg and Dr Sutton with J H Denio umpiring.
Mrs C L French wife of Charley French of Montpelier died last Thursday at 10 P M after extended illness from liver cancer. She was 62, daughter of the late Andrew Galloway of St Charles, and leaves her husband six sons and one daughter. Funeral held Saturday in Montpelier Second Ward chapel with Bishop Hott and Bishop Rich officiating.
The Montpelier Chapter Red Cross invites all qualified local servicemen and their partners to a banquet at 7 p.m. and a grand ball at the Montpelier pavilion on Friday night August 31. President Joseph R. Shepherd to give the banquet address. Attendees should arrive promptly at 7 o'clock.
Colonel Willard Young told a tabernacle audience that U S soldiers serve the Lord and Mormon servicemen in battle uphold liberty to spread the gospel. He said army and navy work is a divine service and urged purity of life as moral protection for those obeying gospel principles.

Advance agent Clifford L. Brown announces the Giersdorf Musical Company will present two shows in Paris next week. The board of county commissioners invites Paris and Montpelier clubs and local business leaders to visit Star Valley Wyoming on a cooperative goodwill trip. They allocate 10000 to the Montpelier Star Valley road and seek Star Valley input on the route to serve the greatest number, possibly via Geneva to link Montpelier and Thomas Fork valley.
Ephriam Crossley of Liberty died at Montpelier hospital at 9 o clock Tuesday after a recent operation. He leaves six children, three sons and three daughters, and was born in England June 4 1850. He came to Bear Lake valley 43 years ago and is buried in Liberty cemetery beside his wife.
John Bateman and his son George visited Salt Lake City and toured Fort Douglas where they met several Bear Lake youths who had recently enlisted.
