Pele and the Hawaiian Volcanoes A Spectacular Native Legend
The article recounts volcanic activity at Kilauea and Mauna Loa with lava seas and ash, noting Pele the Hawaiian goddess as a central figure. It blends myth with recent observations by Roy Finch and others, plus historical events from 1790 to 1921, and mentions Kapiolani’s 1820s defiance and Haleakala’s size.
