Thomas G Kunz 40 of Georgetown was killed at 1 10 a m Thursday in a head on collision with a diesel semi near Georgetown Divide 3 4 miles west of Georgetown He crossed the center line and was crushed under the truck driver Walter Wanek Henderson Colorado was uninjured and the tractor trailer was a total wreck authorities said
The Bear Lake County Grassman Committee and State Committee met at the County Courthouse to protect the 18th annual Grassman Program of 1968. County chair Charles Hulme announced plans for tours of ranches and a dinner while praising 1967 efforts. The crash investigation into a separate incident continues with no skid marks found. Chadwell reports no brake evidence. Mr Kunz is survived by his wife and four children.
Warren Scott Pendrey a Montpelier businessman aged 68 died April 22 at Bear Lake County Memorial Hospital after a lingering illness. Born November 24, 1899 in Paris he worked in plumbing and heating with his brother before WWI service. He built Crockett Auto Parts and the Playmate Shop in 1939 and the Three Sisters Motel in 1954. He was married to Verda M Toomer since 1923 and is survived by three children eight grandchildren a great grandchild a sister and a brother. Funeral services were held April 24 at the Montpelier First LDS Ward Chapel with interment in Montpelier City Cemetery.
Bear Lake High School senior Craig Ipsen was admitted to Harvard College as part of the class of 1972. He earned a $3,300 freshman grant, a $500 work scholarship, and joins about 1,200 admitted from 8,000 applicant pool with a 3.872 GPA. Ipsen called the news dreamlike and daunting.
The Emerson School will present its annual Spring Festival Friday at 7 30 p m in the Bear Lake Junior High gym in Paris. Kindergarten through seventh grade students will perform action songs dancing and physical fitness exercises. The same program was shown to junior high students Thursday afternoon.
Funeral services held Saturday April 13 at the Bear Lake LDS Stake Tabernacle for E Woodruff Stucki who died April 10 of a stroke. Ezra S Stucki offered the family prayer. Music by Ruby B Dunford and a quartet including Darlene Rich Velma Hansen Lloyd J Passey Bello Nye. Speakers Bishop Morris B Athay President L Burdette Pugmire and President T Jay Nelson. Interment in Paris City Cemetery. Pallbearers were Gordon sons Spencer I Lund L Ronald W Richard A and Mark W Stucki David and Howard W Matthews.
The Revelers, a talented men's quartet, present the final concert of the 1967-68 Community Concert series on May 4 at 8:00 p.m. at the Bear Lake Stake Tabernacle in Paris. Membership in the Community Concert Association grants admission and a 1968-69 membership also gives access.
A new Girl Scout troop in Paris plans an investiture service next Tuesday May 1 at 7 30 p m in City Hall. Pins will be presented to girls with four meetings and four active members have registered eight dollars fees. Parents and interested persons are urged to attend. Mrs Ted Knowles leads the troop with Mrs Tom Preston as assistant. The group meets Fridays after school at the Knowles home. Eligible girls are 4th to 6th grade.
County Republican Central Committee chairman Kay J. Allred announced a May 2 meeting at Montpelier City Hall at 8 00 pm All Republicans and those seeking candidacy may attend. Petitions for county offices are available from Allred or the County Clerk’s office. The event includes a GOP Jamboree in honor of Congressman George V Hansen with Governor Ronald Reagan as featured speaker to launch Hansen's Idaho U S Senate bid.
Idaho congressman George Hansen formally announced his bid for the U.S. Senate in a five day trek from Pocatello to Lewiston. He described his decision at each stop including the Bannock Hotel and Boise and answered questions about challenging Frank Church.
Bear Lake County Wool Pool sold 180000 pounds from 130 growers to California Pacific Wool Co. The price was 0.4707 per pound. Jim Condron represented the pool, a longtime local wool buyer.
The oh dash insid political jamboree is scheduled at Boise College gym in Delday beginning at 7:00 p.m. The event invites community members to engage in the political gathering and hear local voices.
