The foot and mouth disease, long a burden for farmers with cattle hogs and sheep, has largely disappeared in most areas. Our county avoided infection but local raisers and traders felt the squeeze as shipments to market halted for a period.

Lin Atkinson a prominent farmer just north of town has been seriously ill for several days. He was struck by a severe head pain last Friday but shows some improvement and his symptoms are more encouraging this morning. Hope he recovers fully and returns to health soon.
