Bail Petition Seeks Release Under Reprieve for Gambling Case
In Tallahassee on November 10, Hyde and Slaton petitioned the Florida Supreme Court to fix bail and grant release on a reprieve from a four month prison term for operating a gambling house in Dade County. Governor Cone had issued 60 day reprieves but told Sheriff Coleman the men could be freed only after bond is set. The petition argues Coleman refused bond without a court fixing an amount and requests the court compel him to show cause for withholding release.
