San Angelo Texas January 28 A train wreck spilled eight tank cars from the San Angelo to Brownwood line seven miles west of town causing a large oil fire. Flames reached 75 feet, two cars exploded, no injuries reported. A wrecking crew from Brownwood fought the blaze with mud and the track was to be cleared by nightfall.
Pampa High School students backed a plan for a student council at chapel. The council would advise authorities, operate under the principal and superintendent, and be elected by 23 home room representatives. Each home room has 25 to 30 students, ensuring broad representation.
Fort Worth oilman Frank Killough warns Texas independents that world monopoly and integrated control by major companies squeeze independent producers. He cites a narrowed market across production, transport, refining and retail, urging independents to unite to curb major firms and restore competitive balance.

Vernon Texas June 28 two jurors were needed as the Thompson murder trial proceeded with testimony looming in the slaying of Honrwr Crabtree a Gray County rancher found beaten near LeFors boot heel prints on his face and head. Thompson and Crabtree were pioneer West Texas families with Carl Hefner already convicted of murder and sentenced to 98 years in a related case.
A federal grand jury indicted Jack Walton ex governor Oklahoma City January 28. The panel charged Walton Richard Enright former New York City police chief Henry Miller editor of Psychology LB Cox associate of Dr Frederick Cok and 15 others in Universal Oil and Gas Company fraud scheme totaling about 750000. Several defendants released on bond while Walton Enright Miller not yet arrested. Jury returned 1295 true bills ending a three day session.

North Plains Music Teachers Association will meet at 1 o clock Saturday morning in the city hall. R B Pop Fragier said members will discuss affiliating with a national organization. At the Texas State Bandmasters convention in Dallas last weekend a summer school for band teachers was planned with faculty from the association. Cities like Waco Arlington and San Antonio were suggested for the session. Teachers aim for music to be a standard four year degree in high schools across the state.
Isaac L. Miller improved after being forced to drink iodine following a hijacking incident three miles west of Pampa. County officers hold about twenty clues naming a possible hijacker. A Shell Petroleum employee reported a lead matching the suspect’s description and provided a ridge into Dithas yesterday. No further arrests in the Taylor murder case as of last night. Chapels for Pampa high school over the next seven weeks include February 4 junior class, February 11 Valentine program, February 18 English department sauce program, February 25 sophomore class, March 4 freshman class, March 11 negro minstrel, March 18 one act play, and March 25 tumbling program by the dramatics class.

Linton Indiana January 28 more than a score of coal miners were killed when 600 pounds of black powder exploded in the Little Betty mine harming about 25 men in the north section. Injured rescuers moved victim care, and a hospital report noted some may die.
Coroner James Todd Jr ordered chemical analysis of Mrs. Clyde Felcher's stomach contents after the grave was opened and her casket disturbed. Evidence showed missing stockings, a shovel found nearby, and a partially burned match with footprints on the coffin, while autopsy confirmed death from alcoholism.
