Austin January 26 Prohibition dominates Texas House debate on a resolution opposing alteration of the eighteenth amendment. Representatives Forbes and Farmer introduced the measure, McGill of El Paso argued against the amendment, citing the Wickersham report and questioning sobriety claims. Jury Is Completed For Slaying Trial

Fort Worth report says a jury was completed in the trial of Herbert A. Stanley for the torch slaying of Roy Hawthorne whose body was found near Lake Worth last July 26. The state will begin testimony tomorrow as District Attorney Jesse E. Martin seeks the death penalty and argues Stanley killed Hawthorne in the home of A. E. Stanley before the body was found burning near the lake.

Senate approves Samoa government bill for American Samoa

The Senate passed a bill recommended by the American Samoa Commission creating a new government for American Samoa. It extends citizenship to Samoans, establishes an organic government with a one house legislature, and sets up a bill of rights. The measure moves to the House.

School Children Hit By Bullets at Wen dell Phillips High

In Chicago on January 26 two black youths Lawrence Rufus seventeen and Romeo Parks fifteen dueled with pistols on the Wen dell Phillips High school lawn as students left for the day. Six boys and a girl were wounded including one critically. Police arrived as the shooters prepared for hand to hand combat.

Commitment Papers For Brady Mailed

Dallas dispatch reports commitment papers mailed for John W. Brady to enter the penitentiary for a term not less than two nor more than three years. Sheriff Hal Hood of Dallas County delivered the papers to Lee Simmons, prison system general manager, with Brady expected at Huntsville prison soon. Brady, a former civil appeals court judge, was convicted of slaying Miss Nehiin Highsmith, and stenographer 111 Austin in 1028 went to Huntsville Saturday but was barred until papers arrived.

Tiny Missouri girl’s lung operation a one minute success

A small girl from Lutesville Missouri underwent a one minute operation to remove a grain of carp from her lung. Separately ten gallons of cod Myerai were ordered for the blue ribbon baby trout in Missouri state races.

Thompson murder case continuance requested in Vernon

Vernon Texas January 26 defense lawyers for Emmett Thompson moved for a continuance in the murder case over the death of Homer Crabtree citing absent witnesses. The court deferred ruling until tomorrow after the state’s response. The crowded courtroom included Crabtree's mother and twin sisters and many from Pampa and the Panhandle area.

J. V. Lindsy of 615 South Sumner reports theft Sunday of a 1929 Chevrolet coach with license 460-648. J. Hanson of Central eCamp says a boy’s senator was stolen Saturday. A. C G Roby of LeFars reports a 1929 Chevrolet coach stolen from in front of the State Theater Sunday, with Oklahoma license.

Ernest Simpson was sentenced to five years in the U4th district court yesterday morning for robbery with firearms.

Pampa Little Theater Sets Bi Monthly Meetings

Regular meetings of the Pampa Little Theater are set for the second and fourth Mondays each month in the city hall rooms at 8 o clock. The agenda includes member outreach, an added program, and introductions. Mrs Ebner Conley chairs membership, with T E Lucy and Mrs Helen Turner giving readings as the program closes. Proceeds support the Salvation Army.

Wives Jealousy Sparks Shooting In Texas Town

In Lubbock County a 19 year old, Beatrige Carr, was wounded by a pistol shot in Brownfield amid claims of a jealous wife targeting the other woman. Carr lies in critical condition at Lubbock Sanitarium as authorities expect charges to be filed Tuesday. The incident followed a hotel plan and involved a man and the same couple arriving at a Brownfield hotel in a small coupe prior to the shooting.

Washington January 26 hearing on a proposed relief plan for veterans, with Frank T Hines noting $3 412 million needed to redeem adjusted service certificates at face value. JERSEY CITY New Jersey January 26 former governor and United States senator Edward L Edwards died by self-inflicted gunshot in his apartment at age 68. His body was found by Charles Baumgarten who came to check his friend after Edwards missed an appointment. A letter addressed to his daughter Elizabeth was found sealed on a desk.

Murder charges filed on youths in Ardmore case

Roy Wilson aged 18 and Pat O Day aged 35 were charged with murder in Ardmore Oklahoma. County attorney Maryin Shilling announced charges tied to the death of a police officer shot while escorting a woman near a jail. An abandoned automobile was identified as the car from which the officer’s body was hurled.

RANGH BEGUN FOR RANGHER RANGER MISSING RANCHER

Ranger Texas January 26 A 24 hour search for Wes Marshbanks rancher missing since Sunday 12 miles southeast of Ranger failed to yield definite information. Marshbanks left for his ranch Sunday morning. his saddle was in the car but the horse was in the corral overcoat and gloves left behind. About forty men joined the search with tracks near the uninhabited house leading to a water tank dragged without results.

Trial for Buck Jones Opens in Midland

Examining trial for Buck Jones charged with murder in the fatal shooting of Weldon L. Russell is set for tomorrow afternoon in District Judge M. R. Hill’s court. Investigators report Jones refused to make a statement and offered few details. Jones and two business associates Bert Bennett and Lee Cox are jailed. Bennett and Cox are material witnesses. Russell, 80, was buried in Abilene after services scheduled Wednesday. The shooting occurred at Oscar Yates’s home, a drilling contractor.
