Sheriff L. Blanscot and Deputies EB Herring of Oklahoma City and Claude Roper of Cheyenne Oklahoma traced a robbery 10 days prior to the Herring Young store in Reydon. They arrived in Pampa about five in the afternoon to investigate a hot town and arrested one man while another area was searched with unsatisfactory results. Before his clothing store venture Herring ran a Beckham county ranch and Blanscot once managed a ranch for the merchant.
Fire at Sagamore Hill, home of former President Theodore Roosevelt in Oyster Bay, broke out at 4 30 tonight. The Oyster Bay Fire Department was summoned and Mrs Roosevelt was at home when smoke was discovered on the roof by four patrolmen.
Austin January 22 The state central committee on probation recommended lowering oil well output statewide from 680 338 to 644 235 barrels daily with no objections entered for totals in districts. In the Van field Pure Oil and others pressed for higher allotments but reached a conference settlement. A further proposal urged raising Vanpool output to 30 000 February 1 and 35 000 March 1, with a view to 50 000 thereafter. The committee also urged tighter controls on Big Lake gas waste and overdrilling while noting UT's stake. The new order to April 1 will replace the Sunday expiring rule, as statewide proration began last August.
Ford executives from Oklahoma City and Detroit toured the local Ford agency in Pampa yesterday afternoon after traveling from Amarillo where a meeting was held. Officials W. B. Slagle L. M. Stone and H. Preston planned to fly to Oklahoma City for another meeting.
Ace Pendleton, charged with robbing the First National Bank in March 1927, expressed hope he would be well enough to go to trial by the 14th district court. He said he felt better than ten days ago, slept well, and attributed his improvement to a change in medicine.

Lubbock January 22 two youths Ferman and Everett Sturdivant were jailed in Lubbock county facing federal charges for circulating counterfeit coins in Snyder. Federal agents arrested them Wednesday night. They faced counts of possessing molds bearing half dollar impressions and passing counterfeit coins. Bond set at $2000 each. The offenses involved fifty cent pieces made from Babbitt metal and tin passed to residents in Snyder and Hermleigh.
Clarendon Texas January 22 James Eidward Aston identified as one of two bandits in the Donley County Bank robbery of seven thousand five hundred dollars. Aston ordered held without bond for grand jury convening March 23. all four bank officials confined in the vault testified. Sheriff Pierce reports no trace of second suspect. Central Park project near completion per City Manager T M Gwin.
Farmers hear details of relief plans announced by Martin concerning aid funds. Thirty two counties qualify for assistance under the new program, with specifics on eligibility and distribution forthcoming from state officials.
In Abilene Texas G Martin and Texas A and M extension service officials outlined the 45 million dollar federal drought relief fund. The Texas allotment is about 3.75 million with 82 West Texas counties certified to participate and more may be added. The loan, not a gift, advances credit at five percent with repayment and a crop-mortgage security, limited to drought relief.
Mme Anna Pavolva, famed Russian dancer long known for international tours, died after battling influenza and pleurisy in The Hague. The performer, noted for stage presence and artistic influence, had recently faced serious health issues, officials said.
In Brownsville Texas on January 22 a young white girl attacked near her mother’s grave by a large disfigured Negro triggered a citywide manhunt. About a hundred armed officers and private citizens cordoned the city as authorities pursued the suspect who fled toward limited outlets from the area. The girl, in hysterics, sought help from Mexican residents but was initially denied entry until she could be attended at home.
In Los Angeles a jury after twenty five and a half hours of deliberation told the court at 4 30 pm today it had been unable to reach a verdict in the Daisy DeBoe case. Judge William Doran told the talesmen to retire for further deliberation as the courtroom awaited a verdict.
In Washington on January 22, a UPA movement began in the Senate to curb the flow of foreign oil. Senator Shortridge of California and Senator Capper of Kansas, both Republicans, introduced restrictive measures. Chairman Johnson of the Senate commerce committee pledged prompt consideration and advocated any legitimate remedy to relieve the perilous situation of the oil industry.
Charles E. Coombes of the West Texas Chamber of Commerce told the Morning News in Stamford that a referendum will be asked among West Texans on whether the WCC should protest the confirmation of Frank Baldwin as a member of the state board of education.
Washington January 22 President Hoover sharply disapproved of the Wickersham commission proposed draft revising the eighteenth amendment but did not close the door to revisions. Senator Fess said Hoover objected that any revision would drag prohibition into politics. The report faced bitter internal splits with five drafts and last minute signers.

Lubbock January 22 funeral services for L Herbert Quinn publisher of the Avalanche Journal will be at First Presbyterian Church at 2 30 Friday. Rev Lewis will officiate burial in Terre Haute Indiana. Frances Bagot and Walter Bagot of Anderson Indiana attend. Avalanche Journal staff attend. Stores close 2 30 to 3 30 and post office closes in tribute. Quinn body found on Yoakum county ranch after he became lost from companions.
In Madrid on January 22 students at the University of Madrid declared a strike to protest the Berenguer government. They boycotted classes and gathered to hear speakers demanding the establishment of a republic. Monarchy was denounced at meetings in university buildings, with many professors joining about 3,000 students of the University Scholars' Federation in the action.
Roy Taylor charged with vagrancy has trial scheduled for Tuesday morning before Justice James Todd Jr. Jurors failed to commission during Wednesday proceedings. Taylor was arrested Monday night by Deputies Warren Belchur and Clyde Girner in South Pampa. John RR Roby made a business trip to Perryton Thursday.
Austin Jan 22 The first major bill of the 42nd Texas Legislature passed the Senate authorizing semi annual tax payments by one O Neal of Wichita Falls with a county option for double payment plan. It mandates state tax payment on the deferred schedule. House vote next pending revenue and taxation committee review.
Dr. T J D Worrell reported Pampa’s smallpox cases fell from five to two and should be cleared by week’s end. He said there are no other contagious diseases in the city. Mrs. A L Dodd and Beverly, and Mrs. Jack Mason visited Mrs. J W Colgrove at the Schaffer ranch yesterday afternoon.
