Four of six jail escapees were recaptured before noon in Temple while two remained free at night. Fred Mullins surrendered in Temple seeking to go home. Richard Thoni alias James Hix and Jon Jackson were arrested in Temple. Thoni faces a Louisville charge, Jackson a swindling charge. Lester Riddle was nabbed while attempting to board a freight train. Clyde Edgar and George Harris were still at large near Belton Abilene area.
In Amarillo two men, Art Farmer and Jack Burgess, were accused in January 10 Canyon bank robbery that netted over 13 000 and held six inside while the time lock operated. District Attorney Edw Thomerson recommended dismissal for insufficient evidence. The pair, jailed since arrest the day of the robbery, were released. Also reported was the death of L H Herb Quinn, 32, publisher of the Lubbock Avalanche Journal, found on a Yoakum county ranch. Funeral set for Friday at First Presbyterian Church, with burial possibly in Terre Haute Indiana. Frances Bagot, Quinn's fiancée, traveling from Anderson Indiana, expected.
Tulsa January incident reports a 28 year old University of Tulsa student, Charlote Caudell, wounded by Mrs. Asbury Endacott, wife of a local architect. She fired two shots from a pistol as Caudell parked, one bullet into the right lung and one into the left side. Caudell had been secretary to Endacott when he was city water commissioner whose term expired last spring.
Clyde Havens, 27, was found dead at his farm home near Socorro Texas after a shotgun blast to the head during a robbery. His brother Lester Havens of Del Rio reported the discovery at the family property near the Rio Grande in a small settlement 36 miles below El Paso.
Testimony began in Light district court yesterday in the case of J A Youngblood et al versus Siler Faulkner et al. The defense had not yet called a witness and the trial may extend the rest of the week. Harry Kelley a Pampa high school teacher and coach of the Nubbits team was absent from classes yesterday due to illness.
In Austin on January 21 the senate faced a light day with anticipation of tomorrow. Senator Ben G. O Neal's tax relief bill could spark a partisan fight after committee work, as it proposes semi annual tax payments with a January 31 deadline to avoid penalties and a July 1 due date for the remainder. Governor Sterling's appointees Mrs Jane Y McCallum secretary of state and Captain W W Sterling adjutant general were expected for confirmation. The body discussed gridiron dinner plans for January 31 and heard a wooden gate presented to the lieutenant governor. Additional measures included limits on county tax commissions, juvenile board authority in populous counties, and a constitutional amendment to permit retired service members to hold Texas offices.
Los Angeles January 21 4 The ultimatum of Judge Willan Toran barring mudslinging for the Bow-De Boe trial draws strong reactions from movie fans. The judge reads letters from as hopes to be fair and to stick to the facts as jurors near delivering their verdict.
About a thousand American Legionnaires marched to the Capitol and demonstrated for cash payments on adjusted compensation certificates. Secretary Mellon warned passage would strain national finances. Senate hearings set to begin Monday on the cash proposals.
Austin Texas Jan 21 The senate considers the O Neal emergency tax bill after multiple hearings and favorable committee action It would allow half of 1930 taxes to be paid by January 31 and the remaining half by July 31 without penalty Similar provisions would apply to 1931 taxes Citizens from north and northwest Texas urged passage while tax collectors claimed added work and comptroller George Shepard said opposition was not active

Names include Lawrence Westbrook of Waco as agriculture chair with J C Albritton of Yorktown as vice chair, and Phil Sanders of Nacogdoches chairing the high‑profile appropriations committee with Joseph McGill of El Paso as vice chair. Other picks cover banks, commerce, common carriers, districts, constitutional amendments, conservation, counties, criminal jurisprudence, education, and more with numerous city and county representatives named to lead and assist.
Washington January 31 The Supreme Court weighs the life of constitutional prohibition in pending cases. Justices hear arguments for and against the recent New Jersey judge ruling that the Eighteenth Amendment was not properly ratified by state legislatures rather than popular vote conventions.
Texas A and M College announces James Sullivan has accepted the role of assistant chief of the division of feed control service after resigning as business manager of athletics. The announcement was made by Mi A B Conner director of the Texas Agricultural Experiment Station in College Station.
In Austin the railroad commission prepares for a hearing on statewide proration tomorrow led by Commissioner C. V. Terrell. Royalty owners and oil operators from the Van field press for higher output saying 40,000 to 50,000 barrels daily could be marketed, far above the current 27,260 barrel limit. The statewide order, in effect since August, expires January 24 and was set to 680,238 barrels daily. The central committee including major and independent producers, led by BR Penn of Dallas, will advise on a new figure.
In San Antonio the trial heard claims that Mrs Clara Uhr endured years of abuse from Daniel Uhr, who was killed by an axe as he slept. A niece and a Fort Sam soldier testified to threats, threats of divorce, and prior violence. Lexie Jones said he killed Uhr for $500 insurance. Jones faces murder charges. Donald Walker fellow soldier received a 15 year sentence in the case.
In Terrell Texas on January 21 a man named McCullough electrocuted himself in a bathroom by wrapping an electric cord around his neck and tying to a wall socket. An inquest in Justice Court returned a verdict detailing the death. Paul D Hill of the L T Hill company store was absent from work yesterday due to tyress.
