Legion Meeting Called Tonight

Members of Kerley Crossman post No 34 American Legion meet at 8 tonight to discuss the Wright Patman bill. Legion representatives from the eighteenth district will explain the measure and its push for immediate cash payments of World War adjusted service certificates held by ex servicemen. The bill, introduced by a Texas congressman and endorsed by the American Legion of Texas, hinges on Texas Legion action. Veterans pleas will be voiced through the American Legion to Congress and the legislature.

Five Million Suit Against Worleys Is Dismissed

The five million dollar suit by Martha Worley Latham and others against Phoebe A. Worley and others was dismissed by Judge Clifford Braly in the 11th district court after a negotiated judgment. The settlement provided that plaintiffs recover nothing and defendants gain title and possession of funds and premises in dispute. The original petition sought one third of property valued at sixteen million dollars owned by Mrs. Worley and others. The case, once among the longest tried locally, featured sensational statements and drew wide interest. Reeder & Reeder of Amarillo represented the defendants. plaintiffs were represented by Works and Bassett of Amarillo and Dorenfield, Foster and Fullington of Amarillo.

Denied Habeas Corpus Granted in Port Arthur Killing

A. B. Johnson, charged with killing Otis Lee Adams in Port Arthur, was granted habeas corpus and released on $10,000 bail after making a brief statement to Sheriff Covington that Adams was responsible for the daughter Elizabeth Adams death. Authorities have not determined how the shooting occurred. Johnson, held since Saturday, spoke little to reporters and declined to elaborate beyond saying Adams was to blame.

Missing editor and publisher feared after trip in Cochran County

Lubbock Texas January reports say editor Charles A Guy publisher L J Quinn of the Avalanche Journal and Mrs Guy are missing since Sunday. Over 20 men with automobiles search Cochran County and nearby areas while Mayor Clements calls for a city posse if they are not found. An airplane search by Tom Duggan Jr and Dr Sam Dann assisted the effort as they traveled toward Lehman.

In Fort Morgan Colorado the body of Enid Marriott 28 a school teacher from Wiggins was found encased in four feet of ice in an irrigation canal near Fort Morgan. A road worker Harry Kh Moore was arrested earlier and faces murder charges. Evidence includes a blood stained shirt and a handkerchief with M initial. Marriott disappeared from a railway depot two months ago.
