James D. Shadbolt, a Spanish-American War veteran cut from the pension rolls, killed Cat Vernon Roberts, chief of the medical staff at the national military home in Ohio. The state highway commission may let contracts in August for the top paving of highway 152 from Pampa southeast to the county line and possibly for finishing highway 33 in South Pampa. Officials doubt these projects will be eligible at the July commission meeting.

The Jimmy Mattern rescue expedition departed Floyd Bennett Field at 7 p m for Alaska to search Nome by grid squares. Mattern, a San Angelo man attempting a flight around the world, vanished after leaving Ishmbarovsk Siberia more than two weeks ago aboard a large craft once flown by Pangborn and Herndon and now owned by a Brooklyn brewer.
The Pampa Junior Chamber of Commerce plans a Panhandle wide banquet to honor Congressman Marvin Jones as chair of the House agriculture committee. The event will also feature his analysis of the Roosevelt regime and the new deal, with limited reservations for regional representatives.
In Amarillo yesterday A C Williams president of the Federal Land Bank at Houston met with Panhandle community representatives including Roy Bourland B E Finley George Briggs Gilmore N Nunn LB Hughey and J L Noel. Appraisals on land were debated after farmers claimed values were half true and Williams expressed a desire to be fair and assist Panhandle residents in resolving their problems. County Agent Ralph Thomas traveled to McLean today. John A Reed of Miami was a shopper in Pampa yesterday.

The Tava Bakers' association announced a July 5 price hike for bread due to higher wheat costs and a processing tax. A 1 lb loaf would rise to 8 cents, and an 11 lb loaf to 12 cents, with government officials vowing an investigation into the Iowa price increase. The official noted the wheat tax effect only after July 4 and estimated the tax at about $1.489 per barrel, not $1.50.

Catherine Lancaster sustained a broken arm and facial cuts when her bicycle was struck by a car at the corner of Kingsmill and Ballard streets. The driver drove her to a physician where the arm was set and injuries treated. The accident occurred near Miami Court.
A three judge federal panel in Marillo rules the railroad commission's proration regulations in the Panhandle field are not unreasonable and Danciger Oil Co is not entitled to an injunction to halt enforcement of the orders.
