A Dallas senator, Mike McKool, filibustered for nearly 18 hours to win an extra 17 million dollars for the Mental Health and Mental Retardation department as part of a 4.1 billion one year Texas budget. Nixon to Visit Western White House Before Democratic Convention
Washington AP reports President Nixon will travel to the Western White House in San Clemente California this week and stay through the Democratic National Convention. Press Secretary Ronald Zeigler gave few dates for departure and return while Mrs Nixon is expected to accompany him. Nixon will hold a news conference and discuss troop levels in Vietnam before leaving. In Tokyo, Rep Hale Boggs and Rep Gerald Ford were greeted on arrival in China by officials of the Chinese Foreign Affairs Institute and met with Kuo Mo-jo and Chan Hsi-jo at a banquet.

James Darrell McVickers 34 dies in Florida heart attack
James Darrell Buddy McVickers died on arrival at a Pensacola hospital from an apparent heart attack. Born in Dumas, he was a 1955 Dumas High School graduate who attended Texas Tech. He lived in Pampa seven years before moving to Florida. Survivors include wife Beverly, three children, three sisters, one brother, his parents, and grandfather Weightman. Funeral arrangements are pending with Morrison Funeral Home in Dumas.

Two youths jailed after car theft in Pampa
Police recovered a stolen car Monday and jailed two youths aged 15 and 16. Three companions are being sought in Amarillo. The vehicle stolen in Farmington New Mexico, owner en route to reclaim it. Pampa Man Held for Property Destruction
Charley Ferguson was jailed awaiting arraignment before Judge Ed Anderson on a charge of property destruction.
