Godber To Be Replacement For Profumo
London AP Joseph Godber, minister of state for foreign affairs and MP since 1951, replaces disgraced John Profumo as war minister. Godber, 49, has been in the Foreign Office since 1960 and was named minister of state in 1961. Profumo resigned June 4 after admitting he lied to the House of Commons about an intimate relationship with Christine Keeler. Peter Thomas will replace Godber. Dr Stephen Ward, a key figure, prepared his defense for a vice trial that could reveal more about the sex and security affair. Ward faces charges he lived partly on earnings of prostitutes.

Pampa Fireworks Ban Reminder Issued by Police Chief
Pampa Police Chief Jim Conner warned residents that city ordinance bans discharging or selling fireworks within the city limits. Officers stopped three youths in a red convertible and confiscated Roman candles, warning of prosecution for any further violations. Conner stressed fireworks are dangerous and can cause injuries or fires ahead of the Fourth of July.
