War Dead to Be Returned for Permanent Burial
The body of Sgt. Bertie M. Vaught Jr. is being returned to the United States for permanent interment after being killed in action as a B-24 turret gunner with the Eighth Air Force in Europe. Born March 1, 1921 in Electra Texas, he later moved to Pampa and graduated from Pampa High School in 1939. He worked for J W Hastings Drilling before enlisting on November 7, 1943 and was overseas by November 1, 1944. He is survived by his parents Mr and Mrs Bertie M Vaught Sr two daughters Barbara Ann and Sandra Kay a brother Ance Vaught and a sister Mrs J W Hastings of Wichita Falls. Funeral arrangements with Duenkel Carmin Funeral Home will be announced.

The body of Sgt Harold E F Olmstead arrived in New York with 3 783 other fallen Americans and will be returned to Bartleaville Okla for final internment. He enlisted in 1942 after working for Philips Petroleum in Pampa for about five years and shipped overseas in September 1944. He was killed in action in France with the 5th Armored Infantry Division and is survived by his mother Mrs Iva R Deeman and two siblings.

The body of Pfc Clyde W Baird, son of Mr and Mrs Baird of 617 N Faulkner, is en route from a Philippine cemetery and will arrive in Pampa for permanent burial in a few weeks. Born in Smith County Tennessee on November 7 1917 he drowned May 20 1945 in the Lao River Luzon while serving as a parachute rigger with the 385th Service Group 601st Division. He had lived in Pampa since 1920 and attended local schools.
