The Associated Press reports a worsening polio situation in Texas. Governor Shivers calls on all residents to help fight the dread disease as cases appear to be rising daily and Texans grow more alarmed.

In a Moscow note delivered by Foreign Minister Andrei Vishinsky, the Soviet Union warned foreign aircraft to stay clear of Soviet territory or risk being shot down or interned. The note replied to Sweden over a missing Swedish transport plane, citing recent frontier violations and stating Soviet fighters will open fire on intruding aircraft.
Hot winds up to 30 mph swept Pampa yesterday pushing the thermometer to 99 degrees, just shy of the 100 degree record set earlier. Wheat harvesters welcomed the dry heat for faster ripening while farmers fretted over grasshopper infestations that threaten cotton and feed crops until winds drop.

Driver Hyia Holt 66, Denver, was uninjured but Barksdale received injuries and both were taken to Worley Hospital. A passing motorist transported them. Former Texas Secretary of State Jon Ben Shepperd will visit Pampa at 5 p.m. tomorrow to announce his bid for attorney general. he resigned as secretary of state to run. He will meet locals but offer no formal speech.
Major Gail Young of Shamrock Texas was killed yesterday when an American bomber crashed in England. His wife Mrs Gail Young and their two sons Arnold six and Erle three were in Paola visiting the mother of Mrs Young when they received the telegram.
Brig. Gen. Francis G. Brink 58 a top U.S. military figure assigned to Indochina was found fatally shot in a Pentagon office. Authorities said it appeared self-inflicted though three chest wounds were noted. Brink died en route to Walter Reed Hospital after being found beside a pistol on the third floor near Gen. Collins office. Coroner MacDonald indicated an official verdict awaited investigation. Brink, a World War II and UN veteran, had led the American military mission in Indo China. He had recently arrived from the Far East for staff conferences on the Orient situation.
Derby officials announced an official inspection of all Soap Box Derby racers on Wednesday July 4 at Pampa High School. Cars must be ready for inspection at that time. The Derby will be held the following Sunday July 13 in Pampa.
A 19 sy vehicle driven by Millard Marion Brewer, 24, of 717 E Campbell, collided with a Santa Fe freight train at 1 a.m. at Hobart and the railroad tracks. Brewer’s car was carried about 50 feet west along the right of way. Damages estimated at $300, nearly a total loss.
Ben Critz, manager of the Dallas Chamber of Commerce, said yesterday an effort was underway to persuade the Air Force to enlarge Redbird Airport for a major fighter interceptor program. He emphasized the potential boost to local business and regional defense capacity.
Scout Executive Paul Beisenherz took over the 1952-43 reign of Pampa Rotary in installation ceremonies at the Pampa Country Club. Beisenherz received the president’s gavel and pin from outgoing president George Scott, who becomes vice-president. Incoming officers include Cecil Williams secretary Albert Dauvette assistant secretary, and directors Dr. J. L. Chases Ray Evans Travis Lively Wred Nessage Floyd Watson Dr. Ed Williams and DeLea Vicars as advisor. W. S. Gilbert and Russell Holloway were reinstalled as sergeant-at-arms and assistant sergeant-at-arms. Outgoing directors were Dr. D. P. Bonner Ben Guill George Newberry and Rev. Henry Tyler. Wives with perfect attendance were awarded corsages, with orchids and sprigs among the gifts. The report notes many multi-year awards and lists numerous attendees and wives by name.
Veteran Amarillo newspaperman Gene Howe, longtime chair of the Amarillo News Globe Times, shot himself about 6:30 pm near Amarillo. Justice of the Peace ruled death by own action. Howe had recent hospital stay in Hot Springs and left a back seat firearm in his hand. He authored the popular Okt Tack column and is survived by his widow and daughter.

In Tokyo police halting a mob of 2400 Korean and Japanese Communists fought with firebombs and clubs for about 30 minutes at Shinjuku station. Rioting spread to Osaka with 84 police and 20 rioters injured and 102 demonstrators jailed. An American general was burned slightly as Reds marked the Korean War anniversary with nationwide demonstrations.
Mrs Angie Sanderson of Pampa died at 9 20 am today in a local doctor's office where she had gone for treatments. She died suddenly while an ambulance was on its way to take her to a hospital. Funeral arrangements are pending will Duenker Carmichael Funeral Home In Pampa. Mrs Sanderson moved to Pampa recently from Miami. Known survivors include a daughter Mrs Gail Jackson of Miami and a son J Cy Sanderson of Plainview.
Lindley Beckworth, candidate for the U S Senate, toured the Panhandle making campaign stops in Shamrock Wheeler Pampa Borger Claude Amarillo and Abernathy. He highlighted his 13 years as a congressman and pressed his Senate bid during brisk talks in each town.
President Syngman Rhee narrowly escaped a gun attack while addressing 6,000 people in Pusan on the war’s second anniversary. A 62 year old assailant, tied to the Corps of Blood Justice secret society, drew a German pistol but it misfired as military police and bystanders restrained him.
The wheat harvest in Gray, Wheeler, Roberts and Hemphill counties is 30 percent complete with no labor shortage, per the Texas Employment Commission. Sherman, Dallam, Ochiltreg j and Lipscomb show 10 to 20 percent completion amid shortages of combines, corn, line operators, tractor drivers and truck drivers. Moore, Hutchinson and Hansford report no shortages and harvest around 40 percent.
