Montgomery Ward Safe Robbery Attempt Fails
Would be safe robbers failed late Saturday night at the Montgomery Ward Store 217 N. Cuyler. The break in was found at 12 22 am Sunday by Set Don Aycock and Patrolman James Davis during a rear alley check. The rear door stood open and the burglars tried to access the second floor office safe. the door was removed from the safe but the combination pin not knocked off. The safe lay on its side. investigators say the burglars gave up or fled. Employee Charles Herfkens said doors were locked when leaving Saturday night. Police Chief Jim Conner and officers Wallace Aycock Davis LaFever contributed to the probe.

Negroes Attend Churches in Amarillo Promptly Welcomed

Tornadoes churn through West Texas causing damage
United Press International reports at least three tornadoes struck West Texas Sunday night into today. Levelland saw a twister that toppled two airplane hangars and damaged aircraft, ripped a rodeo grandstand roof, and scattered debris over 100 acres. Rain fell up to four inches around Littlefield, and a nearby dust storm formed despite the heavy rain. No further damage figures beyond an estimated 30 000 dollars were provided.
