L G Schroeder was elected to succeed W B Weatherred as junior high school teacher and athletic supervisor. Former principal of a consolidate school near Quanah he takes a UT summer degree, is married, and has Wichita County roots near Burkburnett. Weatherred leaves to teach at Hopkins.
The Pampa Water department received an inhalator from Cabot Co and Texas El Carbon Co in appreciation of fire response. Ro. Allen and Don Conley presented the device, capable of aiding two persons, with automatic valves and emergency tools. Training for all firefighters will be provided by Dr. R. M. Bellamy and Mr. Conley.
The Texas Railroad Commission fixed the east Texas per well allowable at 51 barrels daily for a short period beginning July 1, eliminating the prior top field maximum of 325,000 barrels. Shows plans to schedule hearings on operators in Yates and Van fields for new production rules. Van and Yates totals cited 50,000 and 64,000 barrels daily respectively. About 6,300 producing wells are active in the East Texas field.
The Better Citizenship Army led by General GC H Walker reports steady progress in a drive to fund Boy Scout work in the area. Workers are urged to report to general headquarters in the chamber of commerce rooms or to Col Frank Heim and Captains Philip Pond and Frank Foster as the campaign continues to reach the quota.
The B. & B. Lubrication Company owned by Clarence Barrett and Roy Bourland began building a filling station at Francis Avenue and Russell Street. The concrete block structure, planned to be completed early next month, will cost several hundred dollars and sit opposite the high school entrance. Currently a wholesale distributor, the firm announces the new retail station.
Governor R Sterling declares he is withdrawing his proxy from DW A Farver after Farver stated he would vote for Senator Walsh for permanent chairman. Sterling insists he still supports Garner and has not decided when to reassign the proxy. He mentions Joett Shouse for permanent chairman and Maury Haas as state platform representative, calling the choice "precisely questionable."
Gov Terral of the state railroad commission plans another visit to Pampa for the formal opening of the Fort Worth and Denver Northern railway. He, a Wise county native, presided at oil hearings in Pampa, helped steer the Denver line through Interstate Commerce Commission review, urging approval after talks with local civic workers. Mrs. C. Y. Douglas of LeFors Texas anxiously awaits a postcard mailed from Coleman March 26 1919 when she was young. Postmaster Roby believes the card bore her name now but she has never received it. Clerks recall no record of such a card and the item may have been misdirected or boxed under her maiden name. Mrs. Douglas seeks contact to recover the long delayed note.
A temporarily retired Episcopal minister, Brown, shot and killed himself in a garage at his home in Lubbock today, leaving a note and leaving his wife and four little daughters to face eviction from their home amid financial strain. Investigators described marital pressures as the motive.
