Report notes that merchants will enjoy free admission, with theaters also offering free entry in the morning. The policy appears to be a temporary promotional measure, aimed at increasing attendance and patronage across venues.
On Tuesday June 21 PAMYPA day, merchants will distribute free tickets for drawings at 4 p.m. on the vacant lot east of the courthouse. Tickets are free to every person with no purchase required and are valid for 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. drawings. Prizes consist of merchant merchandise, with holders required to be present to win. remaining tickets and supplies available at The NEWS.
The McLean Gas company announced a $5,000 settlement for the five Ayer children of McLean after a suit over the fatal burns that killed the parents in a house fire. Lawyers Will R. Saunders and A. Simpson of Amarillo represented the plaintiffs, who alleged negligence by the gas firm. Remaining details indicate $3,300 to the children and the rest to counsel. trial had been delayed and jurors were previously impaneled.
The Junior Chamber of Commerce will meet in the city auditorium at 4 o clock tomorrow to discuss future activities. J M Collins new president follows R S Brashears who resigned. Frank Hill secretary said no copies of policies would be mailed and urged full attendance.

Bowi e resident Farar about 45 was fatally shot during a warrant service at a filling station in Bowie. Officer Hill was wounded in the abdomen as Farar allegedly fired, and Sheriff Lee Husband said Jackson returned fire, killing Farar as he sought cover. Farar died at Bowie Hospital at 6 50 p.m. before recovery.
H. Q. Bud Cottrell, former city police officer, announces candidacy for constable of precinct 2 subject to the Democratic convention. A five year Pampa resident born in Grayson County, he previously served as sheriff and deputy in Oklahoma. The campaign cites his police experience and belief that law enforcement requires firm investigation and decisive action. Dr Joseph Fort Newton preached the first sermon at Duke University’s new chapel.
Reports from Highways Wastington and Abilene describe veterans groups marching to Washington to press the $3.4 billion bonus, with a Massachusetts delegation departing and calls for 150,000 demonstrators by fall. Communists labeled in the ex servicemen league papers as the movement widens across states.
In Quincy Louisiana on June 18 the local announcer said De Quincy has taken over Port Artur's Cotton States league franchise and will begin operating it immediately. Five former De Quincy players left for El Dorado to join the new railroaders for a doubleheader and to be joined by others from the disbanded Port Arthur club. Nearby, government work altering the Missouri river channel has added farm land valued at $24,000 in Howard county.
George Limerick pursued Roy Wilmesmeier after a bail storm yesterday afternoon but found Wilmesmeier traveling. Inall hit the car top, Hal Wagner spoke of California games and night matches under new lights. He noted many strikeouts and 2 0 scores as pitchers show “speed to burn” to tame the Faculty.
General O H Walker and his Better Citizenship army af divers and men will assemble in the basement of the First Methodist church at 7 o clock Tuesday morning. Immediately following breakfast, the army will break camp.
Frank Hill of Pampa announced his candidacy for district clerk in the Democratic primary. A young businessman with six years in banking, he has lived in Pampa six years and serves as secretary of the Junior Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Kiwanis club while working in insurance. He pledges a businesslike, courteous, economical administration with equal privileges for all.
Last day for prospective candidates to file for county and district offices passed yesterday. By nightfall many offices had multiple contenders, with remaining posts like county clerk and tax offices still undetermined. The county Democratic executive committee plans to set primary election costs and ticket placements, while state referendum ballots will be handled separately and counted on Sunday after a lengthy ballot.
Mrs. Clifford Braly of 629 N. Culver has returned to Pampa after a longer stay in Mineral Wells. Judge Braly and their son Tom have left for Corpus Christi.
State highway construction plans list 17 projects with an estimated total of about 1.9 million dollars. Sixty-one miles of concrete pavement are planned with 27 miles on highway 17 along the Texas coast in Calhoun Jackson and Matagorda counties.
W S Baxter announces candidacy to succeed himself as justice of the peace in precinct 3 place 2. Baxter, resident of Pampa seven years, states his two-year record and intent to continue dedicating time to the office if re-elected.
Hail meteor hit areas south east and west of Pampa yesterday afternoon with half inch rain. Affected territory stretched about eight miles by six miles with glass broken at the Empire Loaster station and many windows damaged in Pampa. Reports indicate more than 60 percent damage south of the city and a halt to combine operations as fields were already maturing rapidly.
A New Jersey youth, Arthur Mailefret, 19, died after being placed in a barrel-like "sweat box" at a Jacksonville area stockade. Indictments for first degree murder charge two prison bosses, and a grand jury accuses a guard of flagrant cruelty. The incident led to scrutiny of abuse and escape punishment methods at the Duval county penal facility.
