McGovern Wins More Delegates in Colorado and North Dakota

The Associated Press reports Senator George S. McGovern surpassed 1,000 delegates as he added 13 Colorado delegates and 11 in North Dakota, boosting his tally to 1,019.5 while Humphrey earned 6 in North Dakota. Nixon holds 938 GOP votes with 674 needed. New York's primary looms with 278 delegates at stake.

Pampa Lions Observe 45th Anniversary Banquet

The Pampa Noon Lions Club marks 45 years with a 7:30 p.m. installation night banquet at the Pampa Country Club on Tuesday. Floyd Sackett will install 1972-73 officers led by Paul N. Brown as president, with Eddie Poinac, Henry Gruben, Carl English, Bill Hite, and Robert Sanders among new officers and Jimmie Enroe, Bill Monroe, W. W. Wells, Wayne Wilson, Mack Wofford, and Jimmy McCune as directors. Frank Culberson recalls club memories dating to 1927. 30 of 47 presidents are still living. Special guests will be introduced. awards by President Martindale. Entertainment by Perdetta Chambliss. Jim Brown to lead group singing. The pledge and invocation will close the program.

Barnes seeks donations to retire campaign deficit

Lt. Gov. Ben Barnes has sent letters to Texans asking for $100 donations to cover a $150,000 deficit from his failed governor run. Press secretary Jerry Hall confirmed the letters but would not name recipients or counts. One anonymous recipient is a lobbyist who directs a statewide association with legislative interests.

Texas Industrial Growth Falls Behind 1971 Pace Says Report

AUSTIN AP Texas industrial growth lags the 1971 pace in plans to build new plants or expand existing ones, says Jack Louis of the University of Texas Bureau of Business Research. In the first half of 1971, 154 new plants and 115 expansions were reported versus 164 and 129 a year earlier. Louis notes metro areas still lead with Houston and Dallas top, but the urban share of new plants has fallen from about 65 to under 60 percent. Expansions dominate the sectors, especially fabricated metal products, transportation equipment, apparel, and chemicals.

Gray County district court cases rise two percent in 1971

Gray County filings in 1971 totaled 472 with 73 criminal and 399 civil cases. The district court disposed 483 cases and 530 remained on the docket at year end. Statewide, district and related courts rose to 278,338 cases with 51 percent disposed.

County Judge Sifts Eleven DWI Cases in Open Court

Gray County Judge Don Cain disposed of eleven cases in open court on Thursday. Nine involved driving while intoxicated with fines of 50 dollars and costs, three days in jail, and six months probation. Pampa ISD to tackle 13 board action items

The Pampa Independent School District board meets Monday at 7 30 p m at Carver Center to review 13 action items including bids on athletic equipment the quarter system of instruction and a contract with the Pampa College of Hairdressing and Beauty Culture Also on the agenda are a commodity agreement for the free lunch program and the Zerox agreement along with reports on attendance accounting and the superintendent's operational items context.

Governor Wallace to undergo spine surgery today

Silver Spring Maryland AP reports Alabama Governor George C. Wallace will have surgery to remove a bullet from his spine and assess potential recovery from leg paralysis. The laminectomy at Holy Cross Hospital stems from a May 15 shooting in Laurel Maryland that left him paralyzed. Doctors say removing the bullet is essential to judge permanence and possible partial use restoration.
