City officials filed with H P Kay of Shamrock the W P A for a 110174 paving program covering 38 blocks in Pampa. W P A would furnish 46147, city 64027. property owners fund their share in blocks and deposits. North Pampa work slows until owner deposits are made.
Roanoke Virginia June 16 a patrolman reports a family riding a bus used a homing pigeon to send a transit pass to a passenger who had alighted the vehicle The pigeon then carried the pass back for the rest of the family in 1480.
Rain and darkness halted the long City Tournament match between Jim White and Joe Gordon as they remained level entering the 38th hole last night. They plan to resume this afternoon after noon, keeping the suspense alive in a grueling race for golf honors. Firestone Stewart-Warner radios priced at 29.05 featured in the listing alongside Hoffman's Service Station as service ad.
Police Chief Art Hurst announced his candidacy for Gray County sheriff, subject to the Democratic primary. He moved to Gray County in 1925 with his wife and two daughters, has served as Pampa police chief for four years, and asked voters for support to apply his record as a peace officer to the sheriff role.
Franklin Pierce McCall, 21, was sentenced to die in the electric chair for kidnapping Himimy Cash Jr. in Princeton on May 28. Circuit Judge H F Atkinson condemned the crime as capital and ordered delivery to Raiford state prison for eventual execution. The court noted no mitigating circumstances and McCall did not react to the verdict.
Dr M G Overton will introduce Attorney General William McCraw in Pampa Friday at 2 p m to speak for his Texas governorship campaign. The talk will be broadcast from 2 to 2 30 p m over Station KPDN with McCraw speaking from LaNova Theater. He will outline his platform and state business priorities including the oil situation before heading to Borger Panhandle and Amarillo for further appearances Friday night.
Independent producers and royalty owners from the Panhandle meeting last night strongly endorsed C. V. Terrell for reelection to the Railroad Commission. They praised his honesty, integrity, and public service and pledged full support for his campaign committee with George B. Cree as chairman and a dozen other named members.
Washington June 16 The Senate voted to override President Roosevelt's veto of a bill to continue low interest rates on federal farm loans. The House had acted similarly yesterday by a 244 to 87 tally, clearing the measure for law.
Coast guard planes joined the search for the missing 26 000 Ketch Tira and a pirate crew of three boys led toward San Geronimo Island 220 miles south of San Diego and 700 miles from Santa Cruz. The missing vessel, crew members 17 year old Lyle Tara James Henniger 17 and Bill Grace 16, were last seen three weeks ago after leaving Santa Cruz California. Authorities doubted the Ota but pursued all leads including a possible sighting near San Geronimo Island aboard a white yacht named the Tita black when it sank. The missing boat was stocked for six weeks provisions and 200 gallons of water. The pirates reportedly had a library book on navigation.
Mayor Ed S Gall extends congratulations at the Top O Texas rodeo scene. Miss Johe Gill won rodeo queen title and an airplane trip, while runner-up Miss Lydna Yokely of Canadian receives a loving cup.

Allen J. Bob Burns 38 died in a Dallas hospital after months of illness. Former assistant deputy supervisor for the Texas Railroad Commission at Pampa, he came to Pampa in 1935 and later worked in Amarillo with Prairie Oil and Gas. Funeral services will be held at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Dallas with burial by George Welland Funeral Home. Survivors include his widow, two sisters and a brother. Friends from Pampa travel to Dallas for the services.
Madrid June 16 reports say air raids near Valencia after Castellon capture. Night attacks destroyed 26 buildings along Mediterran beaches near Nazaret and El Cabanal Malvarrosa. A third raid hit Valencia proper. few injured as families fled. About 100 hazardous devices were dropped near the beach.
