Governor Miriam A Ferguson vetoed a bill to tighten Confederate Pension law and cut monthly aid to veterans widows and inmates. The measure would have reduced withdrawals from the fund by about 27500 dollars monthly and barred widows born after January 1 1870 from receiving pensions. McLean Lions club elected officers for the new fiscal year at a Tuesday luncheon led by Boss Lion Jesse J. Cobb. Elected were T. A. Landers as President, O. O. Green as First Vice President, John W. Cooper as Second Vice President, Reep Landers as Secretary, Claude Williams as Tail Twister, and Floyd B. Roberts as Director. The club was organized July 3, 1928, and Landers has attended every meeting since its inception.
Akron June 15. The F Goodrich company announces a 10 percent wage increase for all wage earners and salaried employees. The action follows similar boosts by Goodyear, Wirestone, General Tire, and Mohawk Rubber, with Selberling last week. The order covers 17,000 workers in Akron Los Angeles Silvertown Ga cotton mills and scattered branches nationwide, bringing total pay boosts to about 52,000 across the United States.
The United States won a pivotal victory at the world economic conference with James M. Cox named chairman of the vital monetary committee by the steering committee. The selection, presented by Georges Bonnet, ended rival opposition from factions favoring a gold standard nation.
County Agent Ralph Thomas prepared crop loan applications for action by the loan committee tonight. About ten farmers sought federal aid in the last week with five appearing before Thomas yesterday. Several applications were returned for minor corrections as checks arrived for summer fallow and fall planting. Field inspector W D O'Brien visited en route to Hemphill county. The 72 wheat loans submitted total 3,295 dollars and 18 row crop loans added 1,640 dollars.
Clyde Fatheree was elected president of the Pampa Lions club this evening to succeed John Sturgeon. Sturgeon becomes vice president. Fatheree was vice president last year. Other officers named include A. M. Teed as secretary, Roy Wight as tail twister, Ed Damon as Giontamer, with John Osborne, J. A. Meek, H. L. Polley as two-year directors and Ban Williams as one-year director. Installation set for 4 ladies night on June 29, program by Miss Jackie Jones featured vocal solos by Doroshty Harris with Josephine Lane at the piano.
Panhandle brims with excitement as Southwest Race Meet opens tomorrow at 2 pm. About 80 horses have entered from California Nevada Colorado Missouri Kansas Texas with jockeys and fans pouring in. Officials expect a record opening crowd, with a 1000-seat roofed grandstand and fast track.

Washington on June 15 Henry Morgenthau Jr head of the Farm Credit Administration announced a $1,000,000 drought feed loan fund for farmers in Kansas Colorado Oklahoma Texas and New Mexico. Individual loans cap at 260 dollars per head with rates 2.50 per month for horses and cattle 1.40 for sheep and 4 for sows. Security is a first mortgage on livestock and initial loans run one month with possible monthly renewals.

Pampa will host the sixth annual Panhandle Firemen’s association of Texas convention on August 1 and 2. Chief Clyde Gold announced speakers include Texas New Mexico and Oklahoma firemen officials. The program features talks demonstrations contests and entertainment for five men and their families.
News from Paris Texas reports the death of the mother of local attorney John Sturgeon. Mr and Mrs Sturgeon were called there several times during her lingering illness with the last visit Monday night. His father died in 1990.
Nome, Alaska, anxiously tracks globe circling aviator Jimmie Mattern overdue from Khabarovsk. He departed Siberia at 2:30 p m yesterday aiming for Nome in about 17 hours amid severe seas and variable winds. no wireless contact, as he flies north of shipping lanes.
A medicine kit and fishing tackle were stolen from Dr. A. Cole's car last night. The car was parked at several locations and the theft was not discovered until this morning. An emergency bag with medicine, instruments, a flashlight, rods, reels, flies, and bait was listed. City officers received the report this morning. Phillips service station in White Deer was entered Tuesday night with two truck casings and 12 inner tubes stolen, reported this morning. Estimated loss is $75.
J P Morgan partner George Whitney testified in federal court for Charles F E Mitchell former National City Bank chairman. He said Mitchell repaid about 5 million of roughly 10 million borrowed from the Morgans in October 1929 and arranged a loan of 239 500 to buy 8500 Anaconda Copper shares in 1930. Whitney also stated Mitchell borrowed up to 12 million in 1929 secured by National City Bank stock.
In 31st district court today attorneys questioned 27 jurors about residence length, relatives, marriage ties, divorce attitudes and prior legal consultations. Mr and Mrs Joe Bowers wed January 5 1931 with final separation March 6 this year. Mrs Bowers receives 300 monthly alimony pending settlement. she sought 500. She seeks half interest in community property. Grounds cited extreme cruelty infidelity and personal injuries. Mr Bowers filed cross action denying accusations and listing rebuttal charges.

Administration watches Congress amid protests. Republicans accuse breach of trust while Democrats and independents defend Roosevelt.
The purchase of right-of-way along Highway 33 through South Pampa is nearing completion. The city and county are jointly funding the acquisition to enable the road’s completion through the county.
