Ten Crewmen Believed Lost In B 29 Superfort Crash
HONOLULU reports ten crewmen are missing after a B 29 Superfortress ditched 175 miles west of Kwajalein. The pilot, an Air Force captain, was rescued with a broken leg after four hours. he said four engines failed and the plane broke up on impact. Navy patrol boats and Kwajalein crash boats assisted, with another sister ship sighting only one survivor aboard a life raft. Debris remains on the water as search continues for the others.

Former Newsman Dies In Fighter Plane Crash
Tokyo reports Lt. Hildreth L. Payne an Associated Press newsman from Charlotte North Carolina was killed in a midair collision over Japan while on a flight to spot a ship bringing his wife and two children to Japan. The Mustang and a Corsair collided about 500 miles north of Mt. Fuji killing the other pilot as well. Mrs Mollie Neslit Payne was informed of her husband’s death as she and their two children Mollie Lee and Chris stepped ashore from a United States ship.

The publisher and editor in chief of the Daily Times Herald in Dallas, Gooch, died at his home after a seven week illness at age 72. He guided the paper and its radio station KRLD and television outlet KRLD TV since the founder Edwing J. Klest’s death.
