Impressions from Texas Panhandle and Houston visit
The piece quotes Marlen Pew on press inflation while recalling winter fears of Amarillo cold. It then sketches impressions south of Dallas along the Katy line: creeks, hills, unpainted frame houses, fields with cotton and corn, trains halting, cemeteries, gardens, and eroded slopes. The tour highlights coastal plains, cattle, half‑breed steers, and notes San Felipe’s land as the “best in Texas” with long drought‑free records and Italian reclamation efforts nearby. Houston appears at the end as part of the journey.
