Wrecked gear as union drive sparks pipeline clash
About 60 officers were called to a Kentucky gas line project after 250 men attacked workers and wrecked heavy equipment over a union organizing effort. Ten to 12 workers were injured, none seriously, as bulldozers were used to push six trucks into an embankment. Damage was about 25000 dollars. The attackers fled in 60 automobiles before officers arrived. The Zachary Construction Co. of Morehead operates on the Texas Eastern Gas Line section. D. B. Shrum said the assault aimed to deter nonunion workers and that nonunion staffing has been in use for about a year.

POW Plot to Seize Koje Uncovered After Intense 2-Hour Battle
On Koje Island in Korea U S paratroopers crushed a prisoner of war rebellion in a two hour fight that destroyed Compound 76 and exposed a plan to seize the island. Thirty-one prisoners died and 139 were wounded, with autopsies showing 12 killed by fellow Reds. One American was killed and 14 wounded. seven returned to duty. The clash began when POWs refused to move into smaller enclosures. Intelligence later uncovered a master plan to free all Communist prisoners on Koje.
