Youth Critical After Shooting Incident Here
Pvt. Clifford Porterfield Jr, 21, son of Mr and Mrs C and Porterfield Sr, 615 N Carr St, was in critical condition with a bullet wound in the stomach. Police said the wound resulted from a personal safety incident after he fired a .22 caliber pistol. The shooting happened in the Porterfield yard after 10 p.m. Saturday. Porterfield had been furloughed from Ft Irving Cobb California and was due to transfer to Fort Silk Oklahoma. He was taken to Highland General Hospital for surgery. doctors reported his condition critical late last night.

Fireworks Fund Seeks Donations for July 4 Display
Loyal Davies of the Chamber of Commerce issued a call for contributions to raise 1000 for a free fireworks display at Recreation Park after dusk on July 4. The donor drive is voluntary with no chamber budget support. Last year the event drew about 13,000 people. Contributions should be mailed to the Chamber of Commerce Fireworks Fund, P.O. Box 1942.

Funeral for Perry 0 Gaut known as Zeke will be at 2 pm Monday at First Baptist Church with Dr E Douglas Carver officiating. He died after a heart ailment at 1 50 pm Saturday in a local hospital. He was a partner in Gaut Insurance Agency and had come to Pampa in 1945. He married Marjorie Tucker in Pampa on August 28 1937 and held roles in the church Lions Club Polio Board.
