American firms plan to import Soviet gas for U S market
El Paso Natural Gas Co and Occidental Petroleum sign a 25 year deal with the Soviet Ministry of Foreign Trade to import about 1 billion cubic feet per day of natural gas. The project, centered on a 2,000 mile Yakutsk to Vladivostok pipeline, could be worth over 10 billion dollars and include 20 cryogenic tankers. Financing may involve 2 billion dollars in hard currency with potential Japanese participation. Delivery to the U S West Coast could begin after six years, with price negotiations to be settled beforehand.

Burglars Break In At Stapleton’s Boat Shop and Home
An alert officer halted a burglary at Stapleton’s Boat Shop on Frederic Street after spotting movement and a window pane. a rear door was found unlocked and the owner notified. In the 1100 block of Darby, burglars pried a bathroom window screen, entered a residence, and stole about $89 in coins including $80 in silver coins destined for a collection. Police believe the incident is under investigation.
