Fierro Turns Great Plane Toward East

Colonel Roberto Fierro of the Mexican army aviation leaves Kelly Field at 6 58 am for a non stop flight toward Mitchell Field Long Island New York. He plans a route over the southeast and south central United States and will then target New York City to Mexico City. His plane carries 322 gallons of gas and he is accompanied by mechanic Arnulfo Cortez. Plans include New Orleans and Montgomery as route stops and arrival at New York in the face of the rising sun.

Lion Delegates to Convention Are Named Thursday

Pampe Lions club president W H Curry and W A Bratton named official delegates to the international Lions convention in Delver in July. Judge Ivy E B Duncan spoke at luncheon, noting county board of equalization activity and oil company pressure on valuations. The board will reduce undeveloped lease assessments, and the American Legion will sponsor a June 13 trip for Josh Lee plus support for the Legion band. Ford Optimistic About Business Rise in US economy

Philadelphia June 6 The Philadelphia Inquirer quotes Henry Ford saying American business is on an uptrend and gaining faster than the slump months ago. He and Mrs Ford came to Philadelphia from Washington where they stayed with President Hoover guests at Whitemarsh Hall dinner.

Postmaster Crawford to re enter Santa Fe after resignation

William A. Crawford, postmaster at Pampa since 1921, announced his resignation effective at government convenience to re enter the Santa Fe railway traffic department of the western division. Replacement to be appointed by the president with B R Creager backing. Crawford oversaw office growth to 87 clerks and 5 rural plus 3 city carriers by 1930.

Matteson Dies at LeFors in Canyon Burial Arrangements

Nicholas Slayton Matheson, 64, baker, died at his LeFors home after long illness. Body held at Malone funeral home until Sunday, then moved to Canyon for funeral and burial. Pruitt Goes to Death Denying Deed in Electric Chair

June 1, in Huntsville a prisoner named Pruitt walked to the electric chair after denying he killed 17 year old William Mann of Dallas. He spoke calmly, declined further statements, and expressed faith in God as a priest attended. He whispered to a guard and asked to tell his mother he was thinking of her as the chamber cooled under the hot air and the chair began.

Much of Texas cooled by showers after two weeks of Southwest rainfall. Dallas saw 0.2 inches and a thunderstorm disrupting electrical service. Ragsdale Wins Ward School Plumbing Contract

A contract to furnish and install plumbing fixtures for the ward school additions was awarded to Glen Ragsdale Plumbing & Heating of Pampa, Texas, for 26,200 dollars. The only other bid, 91,566 dollars minus Westward schools plumbing, came from HG Pearson of Amarillo. Acme Brick Co. of Amarillo received the brickwork contract. Construction has begun with excavation planned for the basement.

Fire Fatal to Two at Augusta Wharf

A blaze at a Ohio river wharf in Augusta Kentucky killed two men. James Wayson, 74, a white master, and his adopted son Hobe, 14, perished. The Greene line the Cincinnati touton line owned the wharf. Damage was about 4000 dollars. The pair lived at the wharf and apparently were trapped with no chance to escape.

Moody Denies Petsch Houston Trip Ties to Campaign

Governor Moody disowned Representative Alfred Petsch as a political emissary to Houston to discuss his gubernatorial candidacy with R. S. Sterling, chairman of the highway commission. Petsch was in Austin but did not meet Moody by noon. Moody said Petsch talks too much and offered no comment on withdrawing to back Sterling, noting he may decide by Monday whether to file for a third term.

Burglars Busy. Loot Taken From Hamilton Home

While Mr and Mrs Cyril Hamilton were at a show last night between 8 30 and 11 00 oclock a suit of clothes and a wrist watch were stolen from 837 East Kingsmill in the Magnolia camp. An unsuccessful break in at Pampa Drug No 2 occurred with slight damage to the front door. A tire was stolen from an automobile on 608 North Trost.

Driller 18 Killed as Block Fails Near Lovell

In Lovell Oklahoma today a drilling rig accident killed an oil and gas worker and injured another. Carter and Guthrie were struck by a falling traveling block and Jack Denny of Crescent was rushed to a Guthrie hospital with a chest wound. Denny's prognosis was poor.
