United States aviator Jim Mattern landed in Moscow 51 hours 37 minutes from New York, three hours behind the round-the-world record. He planned a two hour layover then a nonstop hop toward Novosibirsk, despite fatigue and suboptimal weather.
Washington June 6 Attorney General Cummings said he had instructed federal agents to investigate over 1,000 suspected gold hoarders as part of enforcing Roosevelt's order that gold or gold certificates above 100 dollars be turned in to the Treasury. Names came from banks via the Treasury Department. inquiries will verify current possession and compliance with the law, with penalties up to 20,000 dollars or 10 years in prison.
