Seven Kidnapers Arrested In Amarillo and Kansas City
Police say seven suspects linked to the kidnapping of Mary McElroy, daughter of Kansas City’s city manager, were arrested. W. H. McGee, named ring leader, J. R. Gilbert and Mrs Gilbert, Wendell Johnson and wife were taken. five held in Amarillo and two in Kansas City. Authorities recovered part of the $30,000 ransom and seized firearms.

Betchel Captured After Kansas Penitentiary Break
Louis Betchel, one of 11 convicts who escaped Tuesday, was surprised while eating at a farm house near Dripping Springs, Arkansas, eight miles NW of here. He admitted identity after photos were compared. Police scour the area for two other fugitives as a posse surrounds the remote hills. Betchel, sentenced 10 to 21 years for bank robbery in Wallace County, previously served terms in Idaho and Missouri. He helped kidnap Mrs. M. J. Wood of Kansas City and two girls during the escape. The gang seized the Wood car near Lansing, Kan., holding the women for over 10 hours before releasing them unharmed.
