Casualties soared for a second straight week with 2,941 Americans killed wounded or listed as missing. Four enemy dead for every Allied death reported as U S planes set May records with 112 raids and 27 MiG kills. The total U S casualties since the war began reached 74,648 with 10,566 dead.
Governor Connally said a tax bill is likely next year and a special session after the year start, unsure on magnitude or source and doubtful about a fall session. He praised the 1967 session as basically good with some disappointments and noted a 9.4 billion 1968 budget aligned with his recommendations while flagging liquor by the drink and retirement-benefit changes for review.
The Truteens Service League hosts its second annual Community Appreciation Banquet at o'clock in the Fellowship Hall of First Methodist Church. The high school girls service club, backed by Altrusa Club of Pampa, will name a Family of the Year and an Outstanding Citizen of the Year along with an award for the person who aided girls most this year. Last year Don Cain family earned Family of the Year. Travis Lively Jr. was Outstanding Citizen and Mrs Thelma Bray was honored for service to girls. New Truteen officers for 1967 68 will be installed by Mrs. C L Sullins, per Miss Martha McMullan.
Lt Bill Robinson a 13 year Pampa police department veteran submitted his resignation to Chief Jim Conner and copied city officials and The Pampa News He alleges ignored suggestions to improve department deficiencies and working conditions and cites a rotation of shifts as the central issue The resignation takes effect June 15 1967 with remaining time as vacation He declined to detail further noting it is common knowledge among officers and Chief Conner confirmed the resignation was accepted ready to serve final duty soon
Prime Minister Harold Wilson flies to Ottawa to meet with Lester Pearson and President Johnson for emergency talks on the Middle East crisis and the East West standoff.
