New city manager O L Stine orders Police to halt violators with strict fines. Traffic officer Wayne Nicholson to issue tickets for speeding stop sign violations and illegal turns. Violators face fines starting at 1 to 3 dollars, doubled for each repeat offense.
The 31st district court grand jury, which adjourned last week, ran 37 days and examined 960 witnesses. RC Wilson, county auditor, estimates total costs at over $2,000. Twenty two jurors drew $3 per day, with additional expenses for witness fees and mileage.
City Manager G L Stite says he will not be called to speak, focusing on running city affairs. Mayor Bratton, and several Fort Worth figures listen as M K Brown and others share stories. Joe Landry returns from Fort Worth noting the heat waves and swarms of flies at a meal.

In Pittsburgh, Louis Tullonara, a corfectioner, now carries a pistol for protection after fending off two robbers who attempted a hold up last night, grabbing the weapon before fleeing. he also secured six bullets for his pistol.
Washington June 1 the revenue bill passed by the Senate would raise taxes on average individuals through higher postage excise taxes on cosmetics jewelry and other goods plus on automobiles and soft drinks. Income tax rates would be four percent on the first four thousand eight percent above that with a graduated surtax. Exemptions include two thousand five hundred for married couples and one thousand for singles, with dependent exemptions at four hundred each.
The Amarillo civil appeals court reversed and remanded R. E. Johnsons $1800 right-of-way judgment with Fort Worth & Denver Northern. The case questions the value and the proper award for the impact on Johnsons property, with county court to reassess. Attorneys Willis, Studer, and Studer represented Johnson. Cook Smith Teed Sturgeon and Wade appealed from the county court.

Sixty two Boy policemen were awarded certificates at a Kiwanis club meeting in the Schneider hotel last night. Seven Wetive graduates at West Texas State Teachers College received baccalaureate degrees in Canyon on June 1. The commencement addressed by Dr. B. H. Whitley, East Texas State Teachers College president, preceded by remarks from Dr. J. A. Hill. The class of 1932 is praised as among the finest, reflecting better backgrounds due to Northwest Texas high school growth. Twenty-eight classmates will complete requirements by summer’s end.
Lipscomb county briefs report the first session of the 1st district court in Lipscomb as Judge WR Ewing and District Attorney Raymond Allred convene. The grand jury considers the FlysL State bank of Booker holdup with four burglary cases and a daylight Higgin bank robbery on the docket. Indictments are expected as the grand jury deliberates this week.
Million Watch Outsider Dastur captured the 53rd running of the English Derby before a massive crowd at Epsom Downs. Miracle, the second choice, finished third with Royal Dancer placing fourth and April the Fifth showing late. The race covered one and a half miles in two minutes 43 seconds with Dastur winning by three quarters of a length.
A district committee will hear protests from landowners over damages for the Pampa to Wheeler County line right-of-way on highway 152. Meetings are scheduled in Pampa at the office of L. Anders on June 4, 6, 8 and 9. Members include Anderson, J. E. Williams, and G. C. Springer, appointed by Judge S. B. Stennis to assess damages for the new route. Citizens owning land on the proposed corridor are asked to attend and present valuations.
C L Stine, longtime city engineer, was sworn in as city manager yesterday replacing F M Gwin who resigned two months ago. Stine pledged no immediate changes and aims to run the city on an economical sound basis. Commissioners debated new ordinances but took no definite action.
Will Garry mail San Francisco June 1 reports the navy dirigible Akron leaving Sunnyvale California for Lake Hunts Now on June 4 with an arms consignment. A seal commemorative of the fight will be attached to the jellers posted via the Akron Morris Levine of Lubbock president of Levine's stores. Was here off business yesterday.
The Texas Supreme Court upheld a bill involving the Small era land dispute over river beds owned by original landowners. About six hundred defendants faced claims on oil bearing lands along dry river beds up to thirty feet wide. Gray and Wheeler counties include the Red River sections in north Gray. The case, State of Texas vs W Bradford et al, centers on non navigable stream beds where surveys cross. Property values cited reach up to $50,000,000 in the contested holdings.
The North Panhandle Boy Scout movement shows rapid growth with 19 Woops and 19 scoutmasters in January 1931, rising to 22 Woops and 34 scoutmasters by year end. National gains averaged under four percent, Adobe Walls council nearly ten percent. By 1931 the council counted 372 Scouts, 653 at year end, with 165 men initially active and 332 later. Costs cited show $720 to keep a delinquent boy in reform school, versus developing character for 643 boys in the program.
Greta Garbo's contract with Metro Goldwyn Mayer ended as she completed As You Desire Me. She told reporters she would return to Sweden for an indefinite stay, declining renewed talks and Hollywood life. Her manager said she would depart within 10 days for home country duties.
