Page High Senior James W Glass Earns Merit Certificate

James W. Glass of Page High School earned the National Merit Certificate of Merit for 1965, advancing from semi finalists toward finalist status in a program recognizing high college potential. About 14 000 students statewide earned such distinctions. 1600 finalists may receive Merit Scholarships with notices around March 20 and public announcements on April 28.

Glen Canyon City Meeting Votes on Utah Project

A meeting in Glen Canyon City discussed a Water and Power Board recommendation to the Utah State Engineer on the Resources Development project. The plan expects 2300 mine workers and 100 plant staff, with a $25 million annual payroll, starts after exploratory work, first section due mid 1970, and a second phase later. Balloon Launching Team Leaves Page in Texas Weather

The NCAA balloon flight team from Palestine Texas cancelled the ninth and final flight due to adverse weather and returned to Texas. They arrived January 12 and had launched eight successful flights since then. Page was chosen for experiments because of favorable atmospheric conditions and location.

American Legion to Start Junior Rifle Club in Arizona

The local American Legion Post No. 73 announces a Junior Rifle Club for ages 11 to 18 under the Junior National Riflemen Association. Guns and ammunition are provided, with instruction from the Arizona Game and Fish Department. Certificates awarded upon completion, and under 14s may qualify for a big game hunting license. Matches may be held with Flagstaff and Yuma clubs.

Penny Parade Helps Costa Rica Through Tools for Training

The American Legion Auxiliary launches a Penny Parade to fund Tools for Training for Costa Rica after a 19 month volcanic disaster. The project will supply electrical, woodwork, masonry kits, sewing machines, saws, drills, lathes, welding gear, and workshop tools via CARE. A Glen Canyon Unit display features Costa Rica's Ox Cart to collect pennies.
