Child Struck by Van Near Luray Elementary School

A Luray Elementary student was hit by a van as school ended and parents arrived. Lt Wayne Petefish said the boy darted across traffic and was taken to a hospital with injuries not yet deemed life threatening. Wes Shifflett noted injuries did not appear life threatening at scene.

Page County schools achieve high accreditation rates

Virginia Department of Education reports 96 percent of 1838 public schools fully accredited for 2011 12 based on SOL results. Page County eight schools mostly meet standards with Page County Middle School failing math and history, affecting district accreditation details.

Indicted in Luray case of car wash break ins

Two men from Luray and Stanley were indicted by the Page County Grand Jury on multiple counts of breaking and entering destruction of property and petit or grand larceny for break ins at car washes in Luray and Stanley during late July and early August. Wallace and Danley face oct. 19 court dates with bonds set at 15000 and 1700 respectively. A separate unlawful wounding case against Jason Barbee, 25, of Luray, arose from an Aug. 6 incident with a bite during a home altercation. He is to appear Oct. 25 for disposition or trial.

Page Heritage Festival opens in Page County weekend event

The 42nd annual Heritage Festival in Luray kicks off Saturday during Columbus Day weekend. More than 150 crafters and artists from Virginia and neighboring states will display items as pumpkins, antique equipment, and apple butter set the seasonal scene. The two day event runs 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct 8 and 9, with the festival chair noting the long weekend boosts travel and attendance.

The Page County Heritage Festival showcases demonstrations vendors and entertainment at the Page County Fairgrounds off Collins Avenue Luray. It runs 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday Oct 8 and Sunday Oct 9 with Friday lunch 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Admission is 3 adults 1 for students and free for Heritage members.
