Navajo Planners Tour Lake Powell for Future Recreational Developments
Navajo Tribal Council officials flew into Page and toured Lake Powell aboard the tribal boat. The team visited Navajo Canyon Antelope Canyon and cruised about 30 miles up the river as part of long term plans for Navajo recreational development along the Colorado. Participants included Ray mond Nakai chairman Pete Riggs Oliver Tso Ned Hatahli John Kazakas Henry Rentals and Sam Day II with Four Corners Aviation and the Navajo Parks Commission.

A Seattle family loses $100 traveler's checks when a man finds a billfold in Page Arizona. Cliff Schreck returns it to a drive in operator. He helps a Seattle couple recover their loss and continues to the Glen Canyon Post 73 Fourth of July events. The parade forms at Page Firestone Store at 10 a.m. and ends at City Park after a day of booths and a 600 pound barbecue at 4:30 p.m. Vaughan Gray and Chuck Bancroft lead the event with Al Turner handling concessions.

Back to School Sale Planned by Page Merchants
The Page Retail Merchants Committee plans a big townwide Back to School sale in August. At a recent luncheon initial steps were taken. Bill Warner handles advertising for the next issue, and Bob Long will distribute copies to Copper Mine, Glen Canyon City, Wahweap, Kanab, Orderville, Marble Canyon, and nearby communities. Stores may stay open until 9 or 10 p.m. for the event.

Wahweap arm opens for water skiing spectators thrill
Wahweap arm above the Wahweap marina is now open for water skiing during Fourth of July events on Lake Powell. Glencanyon Recreational Development official Jim Eden notes boats must stay under a five mile per hour speed limit near the marina while channel speed limits are lifted though skiing remains restricted due to congestion. Viewers can watch from the arm as water rises about a foot daily displacing markers showing underwater obstacles, with safety flags encouraging slower speeds until markers disappear. Eden and Park Service chief ranger John Mullady discuss ongoing work at Rainbow Bridge area to establish a floating complex at Aztec canyons and housing for Aztec personnel.

Fitting Ceremony Ends Old Glories as Flags Are Burned
A Glen Canyon Post 73 American Legion contingent led a Saturday ceremony before Flag Day to dispose of old flags. WWI veteran Harmon Cabbage, Post Commander Vaughan Gray, Roy Patterson, and Al Turner led the rites with Gil Zimberlee aiding setup. About 25 worn flags were inspected and burned after being deemed unsuitable for further service.
