Ray Bradshaw of the school district reports an anticipated fall enrollment of 1,020 students based on Bureau of Reclamation data. By March 31 1,049 pupils were registered with 466 dropouts since September. Current peak enrollment was 1,292 in December, while last year’s peak reached 1,592.
Recent contributions raise the field lighting fund to 1896.32 dollars with 2030.00 needed. Mr and Mrs M D Tucker who ran dances and the Teen Canteen concession split 503.75 dollars to each of lighting and Town Halls building funds. The Canteen closed. Lettermen and Cheerleaders added 406.00 dollars from beef sales to the lighting program.
Parents of high school age youth are urged to attend the Page PTA meeting on Tuesday April 14 at 7 30 p m in the Multi Purpose Building of Page Accommodation School. Dr John Moses of Brigham Young University will discuss youth career options and officers for next year will be elected with Mrs Ivan Kazan leading the nominating committee along with Mrs Linneberger Doland McCain and Koury.
Harold Thompson is the newly elected president of the Glen Canyon Country Club Board of Directors replacing Ken Farris. Other new officers include Ernie Severino as vice president Jim Eden as secretary Elmer Urban as treasurer and Dick Tracy as assistant treasurer. Board members list Ken Farris Bill Warner Fred Carver Earl Johnson Johnny Keisling Royce Knight Dick Cleese Waud Larson and Grant Jones.
The Page Chamber of Commerce protests dropping Lake Powell water, urging U S officials to re evaluate Glen Canyon Dam operations. A board telegraphed Hayden, Goldwater, Udall, Morris Udall, George Senner, and Rhodes to reconsider water releases, amid concern for tourism and Wahweap launching access.
On Sunday April 19 the Page Chamber of Commerce sponsors a See The Lake boat regatta to showcase Lake Powell for locals. Boats must be furnished with gas and pilots. funds go to Lake Powell Page advertising through the Chamber treasury. All boats depart Wahweap at 9 am, tour canyons Warm Creek Padre Creek Kane Creek Last Chance, return about 5 pm. Lunch by Mack Ward and Ken Farris at Warm Creek. tickets $10 per person.
The Page Saddle Club will crown a rodeo queen at a western dance on April 24 at the club house. Activities begin April 25 with a 10 a.m. parade, followed by rodeo at 1:30 p.m. in the Page Corrals. A Western dance is planned that evening at the Glen Canyon Country Club, with more rodeo actions continuing Sunday April 26 at 1:30 p.m.
The Page High boys host Mingus on April 11 and travel to Holbrook for a tournament the following weekend with Mingus and Winslow also in the field. Tuba City returns to Page on April 24. Page plays in the B North West Division with playoffs to feature Western and Eastern champs May 1 at Winslow or Holbrook. The state tournament is May 8 in Tucson as Coach Lee Eastman aims for a run like last year’s state finals.
A monthly schedule of community events is posted in Page Firestone Store as a community service. Organizations are urged to designate a contact to place activities on the community calendar and to verify date availability by visiting or calling the store.
About 54 local high school and junior high students will take part in the Northern Arizona Music Festival at Arizona State College Flagstaff on April 10 and 11. The participants make up the local band and choir directed by Tracey Hansen, head of Page High School music department.
Marie Galliard is named president of the Women's City Bowling Association after last week's banquet election. Supporting officers are Lois Jamison as secretary treasurer and Barbara McDonald as sergeant at arms. Trophies go to first place league teams Herman Baker Wilshire Roger Munford Motor Parts and Carlyle Huett Meadow Gold. Marie Stover won the most individual awards for the women bowlers.
