Political snippets mix in a world of figures and folly
A collage of sharp one liners targets Roosevelt Hearst and Cortelyou, mocks campaign fund manipulation, and lampoons political figures. It touches Japan China trade, Chicago shoe shines, unions, Russia, railroad wrecks, Gov Hoth of Kansas, Confederate survivor notices, Taft versus Bewabanks as a rough, satirical crossfire.
Schools of Greatness Through Hardship and Suffering
A meditation on the School of Poverty and the School of Suffering as engines of character formation. The text argues that virtue and achievement arise from poverty and pain, shaping statesmen, writers, and reformers, and that struggle cultivates patient endurance and patriotism.
Choosing the Right Moment for Courtesy and Action
An editorial urges matching dress and behavior to occasions, praising poised decisions and self improvement. It notes a fast changing era demands readiness for events, and advocates reading the home paper to stay informed. A Canadian stance on Japanese American race is touched and a new machine can sign many bank checks quickly.

Oxford honors Lafayette County heroes in grand monument day
A bright Thursday in Oxford drew 2000 to 3000 people to honor fallen heroes of Lafayette County. Water Valley Camp veterans led by Col. M D L Stephens joined the procession to the monument at court square as Governor Vardaman was absent. Joe N Powers spoke, and Col J L Shinault and Mrs Sultan announced participants. Fifteen girls sang The Bonnie Blue Flag before the unveiling. A three volley salute followed, a sham battle on campus, and the Southern Cross Drill at the Opera House helped raise funds for the monument.
