Col J L Power dies at 12 32 this morning aged about sixty five. He was a native of Ireland who came to the United States at sixteen and settled in Jackson after a stint in Lockport and New Orleans. Power rose from printer to private then colonel, and he helped establish the Jackson Clarion newspaper after the war. His loss is deeply felt across the state and throughout his public service.
