The Illinois Central plans to spend about a thousand dollars on two nicks at Crystal Springs. New fences have been erected and many loads of Louisiana muck have been hauled in and spread over the ground. A landscape gardener is laying out the grounds into flower beds and preparing for roses and other flowers to be planted.

A mill fire at Stone Wall Cotton Mills caused about 100000 dollars in damage. The spark started in the card room of mill No 1, destroying 25000 dollars worth of cotton and machinery. Kosciusko resident J M Charping, aged 83, died suddenly at his supper table.

Berlin dispatch describes Emperor William bidding goodbye to Generals Corbin Young and Wood in cordial terms. He praised Roosevelt Lew and White, noted plans to send a large German party to St Louis, and admired New York governance. American officers depart Berlin for Paris London and Dresden after the visit.
Fire at Spindletop near Beaumont Texas burned out by daylight leaving four wells and two tanks burning by nightfall. One large gusher still spews flame as workers fight to extinguish the blaze. Loss estimates range from 75000 to 250000 dollars with about thirty derricks destroyed and fifteen tanks burned.

Sioux Falls detective reports that J. P. Harrington a sign painter killed his divorced wife on Friday night and then fatally shot himself in the breast dying instantly. The tragedy occurred in Sioux Falls South Dakota on September 13.
Washington reports the death of Alexander R. Shepherd in Batopilas Mexico on Friday morning at 67 from peritonitis after appendicitis. He served as vice president of the board of public works in 1871 and later as governor of the district. He led improvements in Washington and helped thwart a plan to move the capital. He owned the San Miguel silver mines and resided there. He leaves a widow and seven children.
In Omaha Nebraska frost reported statewide as thermometer at weather bureau records twenty six degrees Friday morning. Officials say corn crop generally safe though some valley portions may sustain slight damage. In Waterloo Illinois Herman Garleb Sr a Harrisonville farmer was found dead by roadside Friday morning with unclear cause of death leading to murder theory as team returned home. He was 46 and survived by five children.
The Wright band leaders Jim Wright and John Templeton were killed by a nine man posse led by Deputy Sheriff William Carter at Piney Grove Hawkins County Tennessee. Templeton died in a brain shot. Wright died after a volley as he fought the posse. Wright’s son surrendered after wounding a posse member. The bodies were returned to Gate City Virginia for viewing. Wright faced prior crimes including a life sentence before his escape. Also reported is Seminole Bill Brown delivering gator hides and Osceola family notes. Latimer defeats Evans in the South Carolina Democratic Senate primary by about 15,000 votes.
In McDowell county Virginia a clash between revenue agents and moonshiners left John Wooten dead and John Squire seriously wounded. Revenue officer William Tennick was badly wounded and eight violators were captured. Nearby Rev Maurice Wilson, 80, wandered in Genoa claiming he shed his wife's blood for remission of sins.
Hon N C Anderson former congressman from Tennessee's first district serving 1894 to 1896 died at his Newport Tennessee home from typhoid fever.
Niel Overton of Claiborne County Tennessee was killed by Eli Pruden in a Cumberland Gap Kentucky blind tiger. The incident occurred in a liquor den attracting local attention and prompting police inquiry.

New York report states a coroner's physician ruled Rudolph Haller a laborer died from insanity caused by a 60 foot tape worm after an autopsy. The finding links the parasite to the mental decline and death.
