Noted express robber Brooks Story has completed his fifth escape from the Mississippi penitentiary. His latest breakout occurred last week at Rankin prison farm where he walked away from a field squad. A general woods search followed but yielded no trace of him.
Last week Hernando depot was entered and the safe blown open. About $10 in money and several express packages were taken. The money belonged to agent Mr. Sims and the thief fled on a horse stolen from Mr. Hudson. The horse was found at the brother’s gate near Memphis.
Congressman W. B. Hill announces two new rural free delivery routes in Webster County set to begin September 15 from Eupora and Mathiston. Two Choctaw routes began September 1, from Ackerman and Weir, with further routes promised in the district.
W. E. Johnson, jailed in Vicksburg, defrauded three businessmen of over 700 dollars by posing as the business agent of the Cotton Stgres Bridge Company of Atlanta. Investigators say he fooled victims with a skin game, seeking money for bridge contracts in the National Park.

Free mail delivery started in Columbus in September with carriers Ralph L. Dill James H. Butler and Joel T. Johnson and substitute Walton W. Butler.

Thomasville Georgia September 7 P Mitchell a Black man arrested for swindling by taking money from Blacks to back Senator Hanna's pension ex-slaves bill was released after he denounced Dr Crum Charleston. He told Judge Culpepper he is persecuted and presented his Roosevelt denunciation. the judge dismissed the case citing the speech.

Davis had struck, knocked McCaa down, and felled him with an ax before being wounded by McCaa’s brother and then captured by a posse.
Government plans to auction 1,800 Osage and other tribal assets as part of Indian land sales. Commissioner Jones reports Osage wealth, 1,250,000 acres of prime farmland, and $500,000 yearly interest, while Osage full bloods dwindle and mixed bloods rise amid health and lifestyle concerns.
Washington reports 440000 acres of high grade bituminous coal in Indian Territory to be sold by federal auction within two years. Lands, in five tracts from Arkansas to South McAlester, lie along several railroads including Choctaw Missouri Kansas Texas and Fort Smith. A three member commission will supervise sales with one appointee from the president and one each from the tribes.
Bloomington Ill Sept 6 While passing Greenview at full speed today the boiler of a locomotive pulling a fast train west bound on the Chicago & Alton railway exploded killing Engineer Frank J Upton probably fatally injuring Fireman C C Keltner Brakeman J A Montgomery was also injured

Louisa Pickett, described as a negress, was arrested in East 127th Street when attempting to set fire to her apartments. Officials report she is demented and told Bellevue Hospital doctor Greg ory that she will marry President Roosevelt and live in the White House to change her color to white. She also claimed she knew Roosevelt when he was governor and that he can make her face white.

Washington report by J B Smith pardon attorney states 265 cases acted on by the president through June 30 1903 with 69 left on hand. Of acted upon 131 were denied and 134 received clemency including 35 for restoring citizenship.

Others, Richard Roberts and John Keess, were found not guilty. The charge was assaulting the Danville jail with intent to commit murder.
Alton Newfoundland and Labrador September 6 Aurora Foster Woods of Woodburn celebrated her ninety fourth birthday with a barbecue and picnic at her Alton home. Family attended including Micah Foster, a brother missing 45 years who recently returned wealthy and joyful to find kin still alive. Woods’s father was among Madison county’s early settlers. She was born in Alton 94 years ago. The party became a general family reunion.
Roanoke suffered major damage as a two story general merchandise store owned by A. Roseneck burned to the ground. A one story brick hotel and boarding house operated by George Parkins was damaged. Total loss about 30 000 dollars with 10 000 insurance on the Roseneck property and 2 000 damage to the Parkins structure.
