Cotton made good progress with many picking regions near completion and boll opening fast in the delta. Corn, peas, and potatoes yielded well while fall crops remained poor amid drought and water shortages. Gins ran at full capacity and farm activity continued across the state with various public notices and local developments noted.

Three Die in Head on Collision Near Natchez

In a early Sunday wreck on the Yazoo and Mississippi Valley line 20 miles north of Natchez three men died and two were injured when a northbound passenger train collided with a southbound local freight. Engineers Schesler and Hatchett and fireman Mackey died. conductor Yearwood and brakeman Allen were injured. Orders to meet at Stampley were reportedly not followed.

Big Ed Rice Nabbed With George Sharron in Bank Theft Case

St Louis police arrested "Big Ed" Rice alias J P Brown and George Sharron at noon Saturday as they entered the National Bank of Commerce. Pinkerton detectives had watched following an attempted forged check by Harry Brumby. Rice, a famed crook, has spent about half his life in prisons and recently served a ten year term for a Pittsburgh bank job.
