Report notes Prof. Smith severely injured in a car crash near Lafayette on Saturday en route to Columbus. His son and Mr. Sanders were present when a negro woman approached the vehicle causing Sanders to maneuver near the edge. condition described as potentially fatal.
Irene Lowe spent Sunday with her mother Mrs Ann Lowe. Mrs Fred Varner visited Mrs Jessie Tatum and later Mrs Pearl Tatum. Lucy Varner and children visited Mrs D P Moore Saturday night and Sunday. Cartey Courtney and Percy Moorehead visited Mrs C C Lowe. Boyd Moore broke his arm last week. Doyle Mills of Burgess spent Sunday with Robert and Ernest Moore. Pauline Lowe visited Ethel Courtney. Louis and Mrs Tatum went to Water Valley last Friday. Mary Gardner visits her niece Mrs A C Lowe. Ruth Tatum visits her aunt Mrs Bettie Goforth in Memphis. Misses Sallie Quay Savage and Jennie Hollowell visited Chub Tatum. Annie Tatem and Mabel Lowe spent Saturday night with Ryena Moore. Preaching at Splinter next Sunday.
Webb Harris died Sunday morning after a month with paralysis. The funeral was held at his mother Mrs Madaline Harris home, conducted by Rev F J Lewis. He was the youngest son of T L Harris, a Lafayette County pioneer, and grew up in the community. The community expressed deep sympathy for his mother, sisters, and brothers.
A disastrous Tocopola fire Saturday night swept the town's eastern block causing about 15000 dollars in losses. Businesses including T. J. Wingo & Son Jones and Pattox Tony Wingo Christian Church W B Gilmore and the post office suffered no insurance. origin unknown but not deemed incendiary.
This week brings health notes from New Prospect Health and recovery reports for Miss Fadrie Houston. Social visits include Miss Susie Lusk to Miss May Huston and relatives from Lafay ette Springs visiting here. Neighbors move to Oxford and Delta while Mr. Venton joins Delay. Roads improve in the heat as residents note a new Overland car. Rev Boyd to serve as pastor next year.
The County Sunday School met at the Central shore near the Camp Ground on Tuesday Oct 5 with a good crowd despite weather. Dr Summerville the president gave a helpful address on Bible study and Christian education and was re elected for another year. Mrs Garner Owen the secretary treasurer was also reelected and the convention looks to another year of growth and blessing.
Center Hill residents report better health as Nelie Lovelady recovers from illness and Pearl Vick regains strength. Charley Berryhill and wife visit from west of Oxford while Miss Virgie Stewart takes a New Albany position. The community mourns Elbert Fudge who died at Oxford hospital. Vera Steward gains recovery and John Lovelady of Paris visits Miss Josie Morris.
A Oxford woman is reported to have died by her own action. Burial details and further particulars are unavailable in the surviving fragments.
At about 7 30 am Wednesday a pistol shot wounded Mrs Lucile Hamby in Mrs Stephens boarding house. Initially unclear if suicide or accident, but she died at 7 45 pm and was prepared for burial. Mr C C Hamby, her husband in the insurance business, appeared distressed by the fatal event.
Mrs Hamby died after a sudden illness and was believed to have taken her own life. Her husband, grief stricken, received support from his parents who traveled from Granada to be at the bedside.
Special music by the choir at the Presbyterian church on South Street during the regular morning service. Mr. Herron Rowland will sing Give me thine Heart. The male quartet will also perform. All are cordially invited.
